just a thought, but pics along w/specs would be very informative visual wise.

maybe some specs on factory pontiac wheels like the snowflake and honeycombs etc.....
and maybe some other GM wheels like the 96-02 FB/TA/camaro/Vette.
i'd be interested in 15x8 snowflakes and 00-02 camaro SS wheels.

14x6 wheels run a factory tire size of 195-70-14 which is a 24.8" OD tire.

I know this was posted a while back, but everything I've seen lists the factory 14 inch wheels with either 195-75-14, and an optional 205-75-14.

Cheers,
Aaron

Recent addition: 15 x 7 snowflakes , 215/70 tires I had laying around. everything fits and works great. Do have a rub on rt turns full lock from rt side. Found why tires were laying around...ride real bad!!! (Generals). I have just gotten a set of Unroyal Laredos 235/70 and am going to put them on. Will let you know how much more rub I get.

The 14" Rally wheels are 14x6 with 3.75" bs.
I am running 15x7 Jegs pro stars up front with 4" b/s and 15x8 Weld Pro Stars out back with 3.5" bs . Also the tires are 215/70/15 up front and 255/60/15 outback with stock supension with no fitment issues.

I found that my rub was on the back side of the lower control arm. I applied pressure a few times with a hammer on the control arm lower edge to roll it just a bit. Installed the 235/70 and have no rub!!!!

Anyone have some 17s on a 78 Buick Regal that filled up the fender wells and dropped? Post some pics/wheel specs if possible, thanks.

I just bought a set of 14x7's and now I am wondering if I will have to change the backspacing? I had the stock wheels on there which I believe are 14x6's and everyone is saying the bs is 3.75. Will I have to change to 4'' backspacing for the 14x7's? If so, how do I go about doing that and how much (more) will it cost me? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bud

Me too - I just bought some 14x7s off a mid-70s Cutlass and I'm wondering if they'll fit my '87 Cutlass with no issues...or is that extra 1" of width too much...

GM changed the wheel offset / backspacing for the then-new '78 models, moving the wheels sightly outboard. The combination of negative offset and cheap plastic-caged outer front wheel bearings resulted in bearing failure and a huge recall in 1978 to replace front wheel bearings. Generally speaking, you should be OK with up to an 8" wheel if the backspacing is 4" or less. Clearance issues are usually at the rolled lip of the upper control arm, which can be bent slightly for clearance. Also, a large enough tire ( I have 235/60 15 on my El Camino) may rub the frame rail at full lock. Best way to tell is to mount a tire on the wheel, bolt it up, and move the steering lock-to-lock while inspecting for clearance.
