My vote goes to the Torino wheels. The way your car sits right now just doesn't look right with the wheels. It seems as though the wheels don't fill the wheel well as nicely as a set of 17's or 18's. I saw an El Camino today with the 16x8 mag Iroc wheels like on khan0165's GP and they really do look great when they're all cleaned up.

What year camaro did those iroc wheels come on?

You're getting distracted Pat... 😛
I wouldn't be thinking about wheels when your transmission is cracked in half and you have a few holes in your floor.

But, when the time comes, I think the Soft 8's (the GN wheels) would look better on your car.
Are you going for the same size all around, or the raked 'big and little' look?

My personal preference is the wheels on the Torino, but for your car, they don't fit your build theme.

They look awesome on this 442...

Fixing the floors won't cost me anything and I already have the 700r4. Going to be taking the engine out to check it. But just in case I got 3 grand sitting on the side 8) Get the trans rebuilt, scrap the th350, and get the rear end looked at too to make sure nothing happened to it when that driveshaft snapped. Also gonna make me a driveshaft safety loop using straight 1/4 inch flat iron, a torch, and a good tree 😀 .

For handling purposes I want to keep the same size wheels all around. I would have lowered the rear end by now but found out you can't cut the rear springs. So I'm going to be looking at drop rear springs, possibly dropped spindles in the front, and am going to box up the rear control arms. Does boxing the rear control arms give any benefit blake? With all my projects I have for now, I might just stick with the wheels I got just to be safe on the financial side. Save the money to by me a steel stamped cowl induction hood.

Hey Pat,

it seems to me your two major concerns are Cost and Handling...

That's why I suggested the 16" from a F-body, because they will provide you a good look, with good handling, at a decent price. Don't forget, there were a few different styles of these 16" rims. There was the single-groove-spoke IROC wheels like the ones I have. The later IROCs also came with double-groove-spoke wheels in 16" diameters. There are also the GTA or GNX style 16" rims.

see here:

GNX or GTA wheels:

My personal favorite are the GNX or GTA style rims. They provide that "understated granny" look, they have a nice shiny lip, and they can fit some nice 255 wide and low-profile tires.

The GTA/GNX ones are a little harder to come by. Most people ask $500+ for them. But you can usually pick up a nice set of IROC ones for $200-$300. I wouldn't pay more than that.

A while back, I actually posted a thread about all the polish work I did on my IROC wheels... so this can give you an idea of how far you can really go with these... here's a link:

Take a look around this forum, you'll find lots of guys who've put F-body 16x8 rims on their G-bodies... Got some cool looking rides!

And going back to the orignal arguement...
I think the Cragar Soft 8s will look real cool on your car, but they are just so damn heavy, it will totally kill your handling. And those Torino wheels are probably close to $150 or $200 a piece.

Hey Pat, I got a set of 16x8 camaro wheels you could borrow. They're the kind with the flat face that I had on a S10. You could use them and see if it's what you're looking for. I would sell them too you, but I don't think they're up to your standard. I also have a set of rear springs from a 68-72 A-body and a set of Hotchkis 1-inch drop rear springs you could experiment with too. I've heard the A-body springs lower the rear 2-3, but are stiff. I got them for $20 and haven't had a chance to see how they fit. If you want to try the Hotchkis springs, we'll have to take them off when we take off the spoiler.

I have always loved the GN wheels, although I can't picture the gran torino wheels. GN wheels are just too expensive.

Personally, I'd shy away from a 16" rim. Tire selection is getting very scarce.

I had an older guy criticize me by saying that I am going for a race theme car but the rims just don't fit that theme. I'm looking for a set of rims that are larger than the 15x7 I have now and have decent tires. I might just wait a while since my tires on my rims are still quite new and have a lot of tread left on them.
