When looking at a HO or 442?

What I meant was trans, diff, engine, frame, body, plant, etc. Did they come out of one plant or all plants? Were there any HO with out a T top or sun roof? I'm building a one off that I do plan on selling,I have a chance to build it on a 442 or HO platform as I have two parts cars that I can buy. I just think it would be cool to build the car on one of these as a base.I'm not into stock restoration of these cars.

There were H/O's without t-tops (or sunroofs, which are rarer on any OLDS G-body), but the real question is why does it matter if you arent going to build it back to stock? Most of the H/O's were built in Detroit IIRC, and 442's were made at several places. My salon (built in Texas) has the same frame, body, suspension as a 442. All Cutlass' are very similar, only diff were the 442 options, which you could add to any cutlass; engine, trans/rear-end, wheels and paint. H/O was not an optioned cutlass, you just bought the H/O car off the dealership floor cus there were so few made. You can make any cutlass into a clone 442/HO if you have the money and can find the parts. But its cheaper just to buy the real thing....or build a one off, whatever you choose to do....imo

i would disagree on a h/o or 442 not being optioned out, they had pretty much the best of everything offered. however as mentioned they were not cars you ordered, they came to the dealer and you bought them as they came so if you look at it that way then yea you couldnt pick your exact options... there were roughly 3000 83-85 h/o and 442s made a year and roughly 4000 made in 86 and 87, there were only 3300 olds dealers then which meant not even one car per dealer 83-85 and yet people over look these cars like they are just any other cutlass, we will see how that pans out in 20-30 years

I love these cars just as much as anyone but I honestly don't think that any GBody, besides the GN/GNX, will carry the nostalgia like the hot rods of the 60's and 70's. Just my opinion there, I hope in 20 years years I am proved wrong 8)

80's 442 might start gettin expensive real soon.In the 6 months of being on this site i've already seen 4 442"s get parted out.

I didn't know HO's had vin numbers.....

Oh sh*t here we go again with the vin numbers.lol

i have had my 442 for 2 years and constantly look for them online, the prices are creeping up and as mentioned they keep getting parted out so they are getting more rare. if anyone actually puts research into them they will get hooked on them pretty quick🙂
