When looking at a HO or 442?

The reason I would like to use one of these cars as my base for my build is because I want to use the 442 or HO emblem on the car. There are parts missing off each car but they would be great for a one off build. I have been collecting rare parts for this build like lightning rods, alum rad support, alum drums, GN 8.5 diff, low mile 403, 330 steel crank, 87 ss 2004r, gp front frame tie,gp rear seat brace, rust free and dent free sheet metal and frame.A bucket seat console 87 dark red int that is mint,1978 to 81 rally stearing wheel. I will not be using the rear spoiler or hood scoop or air dam off the HO even that they are all there. Its going to be a one off using all GM parts.

Parts still to get Alum hood,Alum bumper braces front and back,87 rally pack,78 to 80 fender braces, mint pair of factory olds script valve covers, 34mm F body hollow sway bar. Dual snorkal air cleaner 68/69 W look a like.

I think with all the parts I want to use with this build a HO or 442 platform would be a good base, cars getting a frame off resto just won't be stock any more.

if you already have all of those parts then my "personal" opinion would be to buy a base cutlass and throw it all on there and if you wanna put the emblems on then go for it but thats me. if you get ahold of a real 442/hurst i would rather see a resto mod keeping factory apperance with a souped up drivetrain but thats me. i have a 84 calais for sale....

if you are not gonna use the hood scoop or wing i say the 442 is gonna suit you better just because they didnt home that way out of teh factory

If you are not going to use the H/O scoop would you be willing to sell it?

Every vehicle that comes out of ANY car manufacturer is issued a vin # right on the steel plate, no matter where that plate is mounted on the vehicle.

and just about any car from any manufacturer has ho's in the commercials to sell the car....

i would disagree on a h/o or 442 not being optioned out, they had pretty much the best of everything offered. however as mentioned they were not cars you ordered, they came to the dealer and you bought them as they came so if you look at it that way then yea you couldnt pick your exact options...
That's incorrect...
You could pick and choose options, you just had to order the car ahead of time prior to production otherwise it was left up to the dealer on how they wanted to market it, that is why my Louisiana H/O has no rear defog.
My 83 Hurst has some key options such as power seat and t-tops and you'd think it would be a loaded car but it doesn't have rear defog, passengers side remote mirror, fiber optics (were not available on H/O's due to the hood bump), posi or a lighted passengers side visor which usually came on high optioned cars.

I am actually sick of the GN/GNX craze. They were no big deal performance-wise. The GNX, supposedly faster than a spaceship according to a lot of people, would get outrun by many stock cars these days. The GN's were very receptive to modifications, but so is a SBC. I have owned them and raced against them and they are not that big of a deal in stock form. GM makes no less than 3 cars today that are faster than the GN, and two of the three have 4 doors.

I love these cars just as much as anyone but I honestly don't think that any GBody, besides the GN/GNX, will carry the nostalgia like the hot rods of the 60's and 70's. Just my opinion there, I hope in 20 years years I am proved wrong 8)
