Where would you mount a fuel pump?

I’d sell your external pump and buy an in tank pump. The noise those externals make drive me crazy not to mention the bulk and plumbing needed.
Hate to be this guy, but the best place is in the tank. Just curious what is this pump supporting?

I won’t argue that the best pump is an in tank style, but I’m not wanting to buy another pump. The noise won’t be an issue for me either since I’ll probably only be able to hear my exhaust

It’s going to be fueling my tree-fiddy, that’s guestimated to be in the 380-400hp range. This pump fit the bill for fuel supply, and Carter pumps don’t seem to have the inconsistencies that Holley’s do.

I hope you're right. Was able to hear all electric pumps over the exhaust. I could hear my Magnafuel 500 pump over a 1000hp 565 with 4" collectors and no mufflers. I had a Mallory 250 in my Chevelle street car and I could hear it load and unload as the gas sloshed away from the tank sump.

I’ve never heard a carter run, but I haven’t read anywhere that they’re loud. If it is, it is, if it isn’t, it isn’t.
This setup is temporary anyways, I plan on efi in the future.

Is that a bad thing? I think not. At 100 decibals, the pump noise is the least of my concerns. But I will say that my kid's car has twin 044's and I can hear them. I have twin 340 AEM's and I can't hear them at speed, but neither of us have what anyone would consider conventional exhaust - we both refer to the muffler as T6 under the hood lol.

OP - I admit for 3-400hp, I'd go in tank with the pump. The stock fuel line will be more than large enough and it will be an easy retrofit. But much more than 400, and I'd go external.

Eh, I’m already past the easy point on this thing lol
I do plan on more power in the future, but I’m trying to juggle what I can fit now versus what I want in the car. I’ll be running a -8 supply and a -6 return for now in prep for EFI and a head swap later on.
Besides, it’s always fun to learn what I’ll be doing wrong later

#8 supply and 6 return - we make 800+ on that with pump gas. It's more than what most need.

Regarding the noise, yes an external pump is noisier than an in tank, but IMO when you get to the point that an in tank both won't work and be budget friendly, then the inline is the choice. But most anyone that needs an in line pump is not that concerned about the noise because they are making drag strip amounts of power. Happel used 3 in tank staged 450's that kept things quiet, but he broke that motor 3 or 4 times before he figured out the in tank setup. That is not worth the hassle and risk IMO.

If you think that you'll be in the 1200+ range, then a 4303 Magnafuel is a truly budget oriented solution.

The setup is quite overkill for what I have currently, but I do plan on ditching my motor’s top end by this time next year. With some 190cc heads (hopefully I can find some 200s though) and 1.7 ratio rockers I should be pushing the 450-500 range- possibly more with a port injection setup.

I’ll admit I have a stupid obsession with planning ahead, and I usually end up going too far.

Mount it low down, under the hood. It may not be wet suction but it won't pull water, scale or other crap from the bottom of the tank. You could also put a pressure regulator right next to the engine.
