I happened across an Oldsmobile 442 that has W-30 decals and I noticed that it just had a regular console shifter. I figured if a car came with the lightning rods from the factory, this would be the one.

The right gate allowed for a more positive manual shift of some sort.

H/O G-bodies were the only ones that came with Hurst shifters already in them. 79 was the dual gate, 83/84 H/O had the Lightning Rods. The 442s only got "the skinny stick" like every other A/G body from 78-88 with no Hurst shifter options, as it were. If a 442 had a dual gate shifter, it was added day 2 or later. Of course, the 78-79 A-body 442 could have a manual shifter in it if equipped with a manual transmission, but from 80-87, no, just the skinny stick as automatics were the only transmission available.

The 442 for 1980 was virtually a 79 H/O without the emblems but 442 adornments took their place, including the inner door panels, a different seat cover pattern, no Hurst shifter, and a cooler looking steering wheel. Oh, and the quad headlight setup and grille. But it was essentially the same car for the most part.

Oh, there were only 886 1980 442s made, so if it's real, it's kinda rare.

They wanted $20,000 for it so they think they have some hot sh*t. It looks to be fully restored but it has been for sale for over a year in a high traffic area, so ...

It looks more restified to me, but whatever. $20K is a bit stiff IMO, but maybe it could be worth it if it's totally rust and crust free, depending on mileage, of course. I love how the water beads up (not) on the pristine (not) paint job. You'd think if they were asking 20K they'd at least buff it up and put some good wax on it. That's just me, though.

To be fair it is harvest season so EVERYTHING is dusty right now, but I think the owners have been watching a little too much Barrett-Jackson.
