I would go with a 180, I like the engine to be up around 190 to 200, too cool the oil isn't doing it's job. I use a corvette thermal switch and it kicks on my fan at 204. All the cars at the track run 180's

yeah i have been really leaning on the 180. thats what ive always run. i have a high volume water pump and will be running this adjustable thermostat that i ordered last year with the 2 12" fans and 4 core aluminum rad

What are your oil temps between a 180 and 160 thermostat?

190-200 is way too warm for a performance engine in my opinion.

the cup cars like to keep their engines 210 to 220, that's the range they get the most hp. I don't consider 200 running hot

Just wondering....based on this thread topic...what are the plugs people are using in stock older engines like pre-smog SBO's w/HEI's? I started out with the AC R-45S, gapped at .030....then switched to the R46SZ gapped at .060. Just thought about all the modern factors involved...like unleaded 93 gas, 9:1 compression, and HEI..... and since this scenario was never designed from the factory, its kind of a trial and error type thing.....so Im just wondering what works for others. I pulled my plugs tonight and they look pretty good, so I guess Im gonna stay with the R46SZ, which were used on '77 SBO's w/HEI's.
