As I mentioned in an earlier post, I recently purchased an unfinished 1953 Corvette replica kit car project. The chassis donor vehicle is a 1980 G Body (specific make and model unknown at this time). None of the frame/chassis has been reinforced/boxed/braced/strengthened at this time excepted front and rear frame horns shortened to accept body.

Rather that purchase parts piece-meal to upgrade the chassis, I would like to do it all at once. Can anyone recommend a good "complete"(?) (or nearly complete) upgrade kit? I would like it to be as near complete as possible I will be fairly assured the the various pieces will play together.

Thanx,

Tom

Hi Tom, you'll probably be better off piecing it together off one of the bracing gbody threads, plus the corvette body won't provide the additional support of the factory body. Sounds like a cool project, would like to hear more about it!

Call UMI. They have springs, shocks, coil overs, sway bars, control arms, chassis braces etc. They are great people. Explain to them what you want from the car and they can recommend a package for you.

This link will take you to their Web page with all of their G Body products. Check out their handling packages. They have a sale going now. 10% off plus free shipping. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the shout-outs guys.

At UMI we have all the normal (yet awesome) suspension stuff plus a triangulated front brace and a rear stiffener that goes above the shock towers. This makes for a pretty rigid setup.

Keep in mind there is only so much stiffness available without caging it.

You didn't mention your application for the car when you are finished. Is it a "street" car, street/strip, auto-x/road course?

If your application is street and your looking for upgraded handling you might be better off replacing the stamped steel factory components and a little geometry change in the front end before you head to all the frame bracing.

If your heading in a straight line application there are some factory components that don't necessarily need to be upgraded before bracing the chassis.

The order of upgrading components has a huge bearing on application. If you need any info or want to discuss what components would help you out the most feel free to give me a call here at the shop and we can get into detail.
