some refer to the late model 4th gens as 5th gen because of the updated body, engine, and all that. That was, of course, before they brought back the camaro, now we are just confused because the new camaro isnt classified as an F-body.

Camaro's are still classified as F-bodies...

They are right you will need a spacer for those gears because they are off of a 3-series carrier, where you have a 2 series.

To the people saying for him to buy new gears, have you ever had some aftermarket gears installed? They are much noisier than GM gears. My 3.23 Richmond gears are alot louder than the 3.73's the carrier came with.

If the gears are still on the carrier, and it's a limited slip, I'd get that put in your rear end. Those carriers are exceptionally stronger than the open ones.

Unfortunately they were no longer on the carrier. As the story went that carrier is still in the Trans Am, now equipped with 4:10s. I would've bought them on the spot if they were still together. I won't mind the noise of new gears too much as long as it's not some sort of sickening grinding noise.

Used GM gears are fine. Just check the wear pattern. You might do well to look in your local bone yard for an 87 or older S10. They usually came with 3.42 gears and the use the same 26 spline carrier you would need.

What tools would I need to get those gears out at a junk yard?

If you count the Australian built Zeta platform as an F-body, yes.

Alright. Thanks.
