That area has 3 layers of steel and function. If that area is rusted it is better and safer to replace the door


Most of the time it is only the outer layer that rusts since it is quite thin and is not load supporting, just a outer skin really. Often the inner layers are untouched by rust while the other layer has damage since the outer layer keeps the weather off of the inner layers.

Boy do I need those inner replacement panels for my 1984 Grand Prix....ARE THEY AVAILABLE YET?
