Can you get the wheels to tuck with rolled fenders and enough backspacing (like 5.5") with a 12 bolt? I know they're slightly wider, but that's good because it gets you away from the frame at the same time.

I'm giving up on finding a reasonably priced 8.5" from a GN. I can get the upper ctrl arms from UMI for $200 and buy a 12 bolt from a '70 GTO with 3.08's for $250. You do the math.

JBreu is on his monte and it looks great..

I picked up an 8.2 from a 67 chevelle which is 2.5" wider than a G body and 2" narrower than Jbrue's rear end, the wider rear end also gives you better stability cornering of course. Also on my 8.2 it has the backing plate is similar to the camaro with the 4 bolts so my rear disk upgrade is going to be easy. My wheels 16x8 have a 4" backspace and they'll fit no problem even with the 2.5" wider width. That 58" rear end on the G body is too narrow IMO

Since I'm trying to run a wider wheel with more backspacing and can't find a GN rearend under a grand anyway, I'm thinking this might be a viable option to save a few bucks and accomplish everything I want to do.

The end goal is:
1. To get a rear end that will hold up to some 455 abuse
2. Lower the car with the wheels able to tuck on a 275-295 tire
3. Rolling fenders is fine, not looking to notch the frame

JBreu is real helpful and he's got some rubber on those rear tires and if my memory serves me right I don't think he went with any changes to his backspacing on his wheels with the 12 bolt.

I think I'm going to be cutting it close to make the tires tuck. I was searching google images and see that there are some out there. I still think it's going to be close though.

I'm finding conflicting info on this swap again. Some people are saying the upper arms are all you need, others say the lowers aren't long enough, I'm hearing two different stories on spring perches and shock mounts too.
