I agree, I had a 71 Grand Prix SJ 455. It was a luxury car and it would haul @$$. It broke turbo 400 trannies like they were nothing.
I had the same car, Man that car would haul a$$! luxury power handling, Had it up to 140 on M10 one time, Didn't even
seem like I was going that fast. Sold it to buy my 86/T-Top LE, Couldn't afford the gas any longer. Mine was tripple black.

What's not sporty about the Grand Prix?? Does anyone remember the 2+2 ??
Man I love your car!!! If it would have had T-Tops it would be mine!!!

Im not sure I could drive a "factory hot rod" and be happy with it. The 80 era GP does have alot going for it. Anything that you want to stuff under the hood most likey will fit. With the wide quarters you can run alot fatter tire, and it still looks goood. Im gonna keep the back seat original ,call it the coffin, goodbye 60/40 power seats and enough circle cutouts in the dash to hide all types of gauges. I guess it does grow on you...Kinda like the Ugly Duckling...that soon turns into a Fire Breathing Dragon!!

Mine was silver with a black top and interior. I still have pics of it.

Or you an pick up a factory gauge package. I got mine and the tack for $20.00 at a salvage yard.

I swapped a factory tach into my car too. Wasn't exactly easy finding a silver face tach either! That's also a Riviera sport wheel with a GP emblem in it. A video of it running below.

This is how it sat before the teardown. Progress is slow but it will get done one day.

G body vet, I admit the 78-80 GP was somewhat had a face only a mother could love... 😳 But my 79 got me hooked onto the Grand prix's, and your's is sweet!! 8) the 81 + GP to seems more aerodynamic the the other g body's IMO.. Plus i'm a sucker for chrome even though it isn't cool on these rides  That's what i love about the gbody line is either way you go they look sweet! I have always had problem finding parts "aftermarket or stock" for my car and recently it has gotten non existent, when you find one it's usually beat to hell!! :? I agree with others the dash and console are usually better looking then other g bodies though cuz finding a console has been a pain!! One thing i do get tired of hearing is nice "Monte, Regal, Cutlass....... :wtf: it's all good though! I'm ok with driving a red headed step child!!

I saw a GP with the pfi roadmaster engine & it had a nice custom air intake behind the grille; it was roasting tires easily while pulling so much air you could hear it whistling through that giant paul wall looking grille. IDK why some people are determined to overpay for obsolete mismatched Pontiac engines that belong in other OG rides of their time. Chev/buick engine all day if I ever get my hands on 1, I just would leave the exterior all original except maybe the paint code. I think you guys with GP's are sitting on gold and just don't know it. Have you ever seen a GP which was just in a crash? :puke: it's headed to the scrapyard a lot quicker than a cutlass/mc bc that grille setup is impossible to put together. They might yet make the MC again, but you guys are sitting on a gold mine.

Thanks! I can't wait to get it on the road again. I also hear the same thing from people at work...."Is that a Cutlass you're working on?" Like I've said before, I absolutely hated these cars when I was younger because of the front end.

Now you know that's asking for an argument coming into a Pontiac discussion talking bad about Pontiac engines

If you ask some of us, we'd say SBC's in Pontiacs are mismatched. You can get Pontiac 350 and 400 cores all day pretty cheap, although I admit the 455's are priced higher because of scarcity. In hindsight I would've just stroked a 400 for the smaller mains instead of finding a 455. As far as obsolete goes, you can buy everything for a Pontiac that you can for an SBC; roller valve trains, aluminum heads, belt drives, etc. They cost more to build but torque is where Pontiacs shine and that's what makes a street car fun to drive.
