IDK why some people are determined to overpay for obsolete mismatched Pontiac engines that belong in other OG rides of their time. Chev/buick engine all day if I ever get my hands on 1

(If you ask some of us, we'd say SBC's in Pontiacs are mismatched. )
Not that I'm arguing but the Grand Prix used all of the Gm engines and even did away with a pontiac engine in the later g-body's

Some of us just like brand loyalty or sticking a matching powerplant in a car. I think my next project will be a buick 350 or 455 in a Regal. Nothing against the bowties, but it's just not challenging or interesting to build a SBC anymore....at least in my opinion. If I had a Monte or Malibu it would be different.

My GP came with a sbc 305 so i don't know any better... BUT i do have a line on a olds 350 that needs rebuilding and which i would replace a Olds cutty 307 with... after i pick one up of course.. I would have loved to do Pontiac 455 swap on my GP but it isn't legal in my hippie tree hugger state so i went LS..

In hindsight I think I would've gone LS myself to be honest...for emissions sake when I move one day and for cost. I've always wanted to do a 455 swap and have thrown so many shitty engines in cars that I wanted to build one from scratch this time. It wasn't the quick, easy route but it will sure beat the hell out of that 150hp 305 my car came with.

G-body - wait a minute, now your talking about Chevy in your Pontiac?? Just kidding of course! I am just happy see people saving these cars. I'm with you on the older classics keeping their proper engines just because. I don't know if will mater much w/ the G-bodys with GM's corporate engines or if they will become that collectable. I myself am a SBC person cause I like performance and it comes cheap and easy. Nothing like beating up on a big block and the look on the guys face when he sees the little motor. Love your car - I haven't seen very many with the leather interior.

I look at the LS as being an exception lol. As much as I like the old school muscle, you can't help but realizing the potential, efficiency, light weight and availability of the LS motors. I could've bought a complete LS engine for less than the price of my Pontiac's rotating assembly  .

I was a chevy guy many moons ago
I just wanted to go out on a limb annd do something different. I had a Poncho 400 in a '80 Regal and I got hooked on the torque. Since then I've kinda been into the BOP stuff. I do miss cheap though!

Who wants to go to the car show/ cruise in and look at another semi fast over cammed sbc with a poorly tuned for the street aftermarket fuel slobbering holley carb and an antiquated 3 speed & drag gears cobbled into a could be nice Pontiac Olds or Buick.

Amen, I couldnt have put it better myself.

Because thats the way it has been since the begining and I don't see anything changing. Everyone has their opinons on the way a car should be and we have this diversity in the car hobby. We have anything from Rat rods to the Concours d'elegance, Ford vs Chevy vs Chrysler and they all have their following. I'm not a cruise/show person but when I stop to check out the cars I think it's funny that the people are mostly checking out the semi fast over cammed sbc with a poorly tuned for the street aftermarket fuel slobbering holley carb and an antiquated 3 speed & drag gears and My GP gets few looks.

What's not sporty about the Grand Prix?? Does anyone remember the 2+2 ??
That was the color of my GP...now it's "sun faded" burgundy. Gonna paint it Chrysler color "Driftwood"

Gotta weigh in on this. The only G that I can see even remotely saving what the General put under the hood is the GN/GNX. Everything else was "corporate". You had very little stand alone engine programs at this time. Olds and Poncho still had their 4s and the Olds Diesel. Buick of course with their 3.8 which stuck around for another 20+ years. Everything else was Chevy. Anything NOT SBC costs more to build. The LS is a great engine that is plentiful and fairly cheap. It's the stuff you gotta have to support it that costs out the wazzo. Even the Ford pushrod 5.0/302 is getting harder and harder to find and even when they were tearing up the drags in the FOX Body they still cost more to build to the same power level as the 350.
