if you take a wiper switch from a later cutlass with the different speeds would it work with earlier switch that doesnt have it?

Do you mean an intermittent switch? Also, what year?

The intermittent wipers use a motor with a circuit board in it that translates the switch position. So, you would need the switch and motor in order to add the feature. I did it on my car and it works fine. My car had the 2 speed wipers originally and I added the intermittent by getting a column with intermittent wipers and tilt and swapping it to my car with the right motor.

Well, you would only need the switch. I got the column because the original column in my car was worn out. Since I needed to change it anyways, I looked around for a nice one with the options my car lacked on it. Mainly, cruise control, tilt wheel and intermittent wipers. I didn't add the cruise control at the time, but will be doing it shortly as it requires a lot of work.

Hey, i'm thinking of doing this to my malibu later this year. Should be a bit easier on me since my switch in on the dash.

But I was gonna ask. Will the new switch and moter hook up to existing wiring, or will I have to get all electrical lol.

I used existing wiring on mine, but your Malibu would be different, so I don't know. I imagine it would be the same on the earlier models, but some systems went through a thorough redesign over the years and do not resemble their earlier parts. Cruise Control comes to mind when I think of this, but the wipers may or may not fit into this category. I would buy a switch at the junkyard and try it. Worst case scenario only the 2 speed wipers work. That is the way it was on my Frontier when I tried to add them. I found out that Nissan used a translator box on it that needs to be there to work. So, now I have to wait until I find a Frontier in the u pull it yard. It's a Nissan, so it could be a few more years!
