Maybe a quick pic on your phone and send via text message. And the recipient can then open, resize and modify to his liking. Just a suggestion. That's what I do when I don feel like walking to the other room to turn on the scanner lol. I know, lazy. Or am I utilizing my resources. 🙂

Hahahaha  ! That won't happen! I have a hard enough time with my computer! I don't take pictures or text with my old flip open cell phone (I'd still be using my older "suitcase phone if I could get a battery for it, and I still have it!).

Lol I see. Reminds me of my grandpa. Although he's like a 40yr old 70yr old. I'll check his phone and he has about 20 missed texts and about 10 voicemails from days ago. He says "I flip it open when it rings, I close it when I'm done, that's its"

P.s, by comparing, I'm not calling you old. 🙂

i'm doing the same exact thing to my 78 Monte Carlo. I too cut the harness behind the fusebox. I just used a small pic and unpinned the wires from the pontiac gauge wiring harness. The problem i have is i have an extra pink w/black wire that i dont know where it goes on the pontiac connector. I'm short two grounds and an illumination wire for the idiot lights on the right side cluster. I need to lengthen the wires for the speedo tach cluster though, and then i can splice in the extra ground wires and illumination wires for the other cluster. I havent done that yet but so far i have the seatbelt, turn signals and high beam indicator working if i hold the cluster up, since the wires dont reach. Hers the diagrams I used. I hope it helps!

Thank you Brett,
That's one of the things I was looking for, and will be extremely helpful. It looks like you're already in the process of wiring it up.
I assume between the Chevy and Pontiac dash wiring, the same color coding is used for the same functions.
Let us know how that's progressing. I'm obviously very interested.

Also, what do you plan on using for sending units? Monte Carlo SS? Are you re-pinning the connectors as they were configured on the Pontiac connectors?

Thank you again for the information...that's awesome!

Why thank you!!! I'm only 67 years old!

Your welcome! I'm glad I can help. I didn't pay much attention to the Grand Prix wire colors, but i think most if not all are the same. I don't know what senders I'm gonna use. My Monte had functional gauges. They didn't really work very well. It also had a tach. The GP doesn't have a tach and uses idiot lights. I'm just gonna wire it up and hopefully I can find Pontiac clusters with a tach and gauges later on.

I'm sure the color coding is basically the same through out. I was fortunate that the dash I took out had full instrumentation with tach, etc. I even grabbed the tach filter, which I'm grateful for. Whether everything is in good operating condition...that will determined when everything gets wired up.

Another thing you might want to consider.. replacement of your speakers. Once that dash is installed, there's no way you'll be able to get access to them without dropping the dash. At least that's what I've been told to expect.

I guess I'll end up using Monte Carlo/ Malibu/ El Camino sending units for the factory gauges. I currently have mechanical gauges, which I have always relied upon.

I'm sure you'll find a set of factory gauges. You can always go with aftermarket, budget permitting, of course.

Thanks again, man. I'll be back with more questions, etc.

the two pink with blk wires are the ignition wires, one on the top row and one on the bottom row under it

Thanks pontiacgp! I just figured that out a little bit ago. I did already replace the speakers but I didn't hook up the passenger side speaker until I had the dash in place. It was a PITA to do even with most of the dash unbolted. Also I noticed I have a orange wire that's butt connected to a brown wire and an orange wire that's not wired to anything. I was wondering why I had no alternator voltage wire. As I understand the brown is for the alt. voltage and orange for the clock. I can't remember where that one was. I mostly went by numbers rather than colors as I'm color blind. But maybe I just saw orange and put it where it said orange goes. Idk!

I did have to lengthen most wired and splice a few. It's all wired up and everything but the oil volt and temp lights work. I'm really happy with it. I also went back and got the door panels. Mine were really beat up and spray painted. It's kinda tricky to remove a door panel when the door won't open. Now I need to find the patience and a lending hand to solder all the connections.
