in my recent acquisition a 1980 malibu, the harness was destroyed by someone who thought they knew how to wire things and add a stereo. i was looking at painless for a totally new setup and start fresh but i noticed they don't have a gbody. when i did a search on their site a 2nd gen camaro harness came up. those i am familiar with i used to build a lot of second gens back in my day. before i place an order does anyone know for sure if its the same?

Welcome to the site!

I'm not sure about the aftermarket stuff...no experience with that. I do however have a nice original dash harness from an 82 El Camino and I think I've got a couple from 80/81 Malibu's but would have to check condition. One problem is we have a bit of a situation here and I probably couldn't get you anything until after the 11th of February so that may not work for you. Price/s would be very reasonable though.

i will keep you in mind. I'm in no rush i have to strip the car down to metal. there is electrical tape and butt connectors everywhere. as well as the rear deck and area behind the rear seats was cut out and plywood put in for his 8 subwoofers and whatever else he had. obviously was not a professional job the power wire was just electrical taped together in sections. ideally i would like to see if the painless kit is the right one. just easier in the long run.

Wow yeah sounds pretty unprofessional to me...I actually had to go over to my storage locker to pick up a couple of things I had stored there to give to the fellow that is working on my brother in laws 59 GMC shortbox restore project so I checked the harnesses there. 1 looks to be intact and all there...even the factory radio wires are uncut. The other looks good as well but I just looked at that one quickly. They're not going anywhere for awhile and would be available if you go that route.

The second gen camaro harness is not the same but could be made to work. Painless also has a generic GM 'muscle car' harness that would work.

You can't go wrong buying from Kevin (O.D. Showtime). He's a great guy.

Yea I'm real meticulous with wiring. My first car my friends brother said he knew wiring and put a radio in it. About 2 hours later I was standing on the side of the road watching my car burn to a crisp. I like it neat and pretty lol
