Not the entire car, just the engine bay.

Its an 88 monte carlo SS, i just dropped my olds 403 into it. Due to different locations of battery / alt / starter and the condition of the original harness in the car being poor, i'm just starting completely over from ground up. Any advice?

I built a new cluster panel for the car so all of the gauges are after market. I've already wired those in.

As far as rewiring the engine bay goes the only advice i can give is make sure each wire you're replacing is the same gauge and insulation color ( if you use a different color take notes ) i knew someone who rewired his entire car with one insulator colored wire (different gauges) but when it came time for him to add or look for a short he was lost as to which wire was for what. i don't know if you're going to replace or reuse the electrical connectors, fusible link, resistors etc.... if you are going all brand new make sure everything is available . that's just my two cents

Just take your time and do your research.

I have been using a combination of a Painless kit + wiring myself for my new gauges and switches, everything goes smoothly until you rush yourself, then it's back 3 steps.

Are you rewiring the whole engine bay or just the engine components (lights/horn wired already)?

like black betty was saying. take your time. It is a long and tedious project. a buddy of mine rewired his entire car with a complete harness and took him a good long time. like a few months or so.

I did my engine compartment, switchs and gauges. I have to redo my gauges, I don't like they way they are wired not that anyone can see it. I have an ARC switch panel for everything else. starter, ignition, water pump, fan 1, (fan 2 but that's no longer), fuel pump and the line lock.

The lights and horn are all wired in, factory harness i just inspected it to make sure there was no wear and tear.

I'm basically just wiring up the engine/ charging and ignition system. I've got access to everything i'll need, i lucked out with a store in town that specialized in automotive electric and they have all the in line resistors and so on that i'll need.

I'm putting this off to the side though, i ran into some problems during break in and i'm kind've wrapped up with that right now.

I should be on to wiring by sunday, hopefully.

I found some good diagrams to follow, i plan to run this harness almost exactly like factory. What type of resistor do i need for the number 1 pin coming from the alternator?

Also do i need any more in-line resistors anywhere else? i kind've remember the original harness having more than one.
