When I was out today I drove my car for a little over an hour. Stopped at a place that was closed so I drove off to find a coffee. My radio shut off but didn't retract from it's tilt position and the brake light went on. My brakes were fine so it wasn't from losing brake pressure. I figured I blew a fuse which is strange cause no electrical work has been done on the dash or radio recently. I stopped for a coffee and when came bvack out and started my car the radio worked and the brake lite was off and no problem since. I can't figure out what could have happened... :wtf:

Any chance you have a mouse nest up in there somewhere chewing on some wire?

No there is no chance of that. I can't figure out what relationship the brake light has to the radio. I don't have the parking brake pedal installed and the wire is taped off and the brake pressure is fine so why the brake lite came on is a mystery to me. The radio face plate has given me problems i n the past but this time removing the face pate and putting it back on didn't fix the problem. maybe the 2 are unrelated and it was just a coincidence.

Have you been doing any work under the dash near the steering column connectors or column harness?
Brake light power and accessory power both feed through the column/ignition switch harness.

last thing I did was to install a dash cam 3 weeks ago and that didn't involve any splicing into wires under the dash.I just hid the wiring of the dash cam and the plug I installed. I got the power for the cam with an add a fuse.

Weird. Your car isn't named "Christine" is it?

I had this problem in like 2010. It ended up being a speaker magnet making contact w/ the bars in the trunk as I hit bumps. Wrapped the bars tightly w/ some duct tape and then I put a few strips of electrical tape over that too and never had problem again.

I have no speakers in the trunk except for the sub...and my radio is not getting shorted out by a speaker wire. I had that problem in my jeep and I have the same alpine radio in my jeep. This one is a real mystery to me

maybe not. You seem so mechanically apt its unlikely something is wrong w/ your car. Did you consider the amp itself might be defective?
