I was sitting in my friend's living room playing Rockband the other night when he suggested that I get a broken XBox 360 to try and fix. Now this piqued my curiosity as I had been previously successful at buying broken iPods and making them work again for very little money. I really want a 360, but the entry price is a bit steep right now. What he said is that there is a common and easy to fix problem that kills lots of these things where it gets 3 red lights. His had just had this problem and he got it replaced under warranty. So I went on Ebay and found a ton of them for sale cheaply enough with many auctions at their starting bid of $1. Has anyone here tried this, and is it really that easy? I won't pay more than $20 for one that's broken because I figure that's a reasonable risk. Plus, I need a project to play with at night right now to keep my mind occupied.

If it's the just the 3 lights problem you can fix it yourself, but will void the warranty by opening it. Just look around on Google and you will find the fix for it.

If you want to send it in, it usually takes a few weeks for them to fix it and send it back out.

Well, I want to buy one that is already broken and try to fix it, so it would not come with a warranty. I otherwise can't afford one.

I haven't tried it myself but I was there when my good friend did the repair for my 360. Mine did the same 3 red lights, I didnt want to wait to send it in so my friend stated he could fix it, I was kinda scared at first but then I let him dig into it. Works great has been for a long while I have since bought two off ebay for dirt cheap, took them to my buddy and he fixed them up, I gave one to my cousin and sold the other they too haven't had a problem.

mines been fixed 3 times last year... hate that ****ing thing, its acting funny again too... grrr...

I got a buddy up here that buys them broke and fix's/sells them. He's sold like 50 of them already and only gotten like 3 back. I don't know how to myself but I know you can look it up online. Could turn into some decent extra cash for someone that can do it.

i wish i had the knowledge to fix them i know you can make a little cash if you have the ability to fix them plus i wouldn't mind a 360 to compliment my PS3

Yeah the 3 read lights is called the "ring of death" I think, lol. You might be able to fix it I guess.

I had an original X-Box when they first came out, my now ex got it for my birthday but she failed to spend the extra $30 for a 2 year warranty. Lets just say it broke down, would have cost me $90 to send it out plus parts.

I put it in the back yard, dumped lighter fluid on it and set it on fire. Then I bitched her out for not getting the insurance and told her it caught fire, lol.

So far, I can't find one on Ebay for a price I would pay. I figure it's because it's the weekend and everyone without a life is online looking for something to do. I figure that at $30 shipped it's worth it, much more than that and I might as well buy a new one.
