I have a friend who just "inherited" his uncle's Malibu. Only 24,000 miles- I never get deals like this. Anyway it was in a nursing home parking lot with a dead battery and the alarm activated and he had no alarm fob to shut it off. Jumping it only got the alarm wailing and the car had a starter lock out so it was immovable as is and we couldn't use the valet button to shut it off while the alarm was activated. First we cut the speaker ground to shut that annoying b*st*rd off. Then I got under the dash and found the brain- a Viper circa 2000 or so. I yanked all the plugs off and removed the brain completely. That got the car to start and drive and it seems fine. My question is- should we remove all the alarm's relays and wiring that flashes the lights, cuts off the starter, etc, and rewire back to stock, or can that stuff be left as is without causing mischief later on? He's not mechanical and I don't have the time for that. I figure without the control brain it should be OK.

Yer good to go. The relays will still have power on them but since the control module is gone there in nothing to trigger them.

That's what I was hoping for. I will tell him to put the complete removal job on his to-do-list for later. Still a lucky-*ss so and so.......!

He said the nurses were betting on when it was going to move.
