ZDDP content in oil vs flat tappet cams

I've switched to Valvoline VR-1 as well. As mentioned "Racing Oil" will still have the proper amounts of ZDDP so you'll be fine.

things in 2011 r actually going to be worse, more of the hi pressure additives r being taken out. so in all actuality even the broke in flat tappet cams may not live. save yourself the time and money and either go with a roller (which is kinda spendy) or use the Joe Gibbs hot rod oil, ams oil, roryal purple, or valvoline VV851 (convetional) or VV855 (synthetic) I run the valvoline in my 12:1 engine and it does great. its "for offroad use only" but what cop is goin to pull you over and take a an oil sample?

Thanks for all of the replies! I just wanted some real opinions on the matter. I must have been hiding under a rock for the past few years to have never even heard of this before. I was a long time fan of Castrol Syntec too.

I'm having a hard time grasping the idea of spending a grand or better on a roller cam & valve train right now, but I do like the idea of the reduced friction and a bit of "modern technology"

Either way I have time to think about it.

Brad Penn oil, no extra money for additives , nuf said.

where do you get $1000 for a roller conversion? when i priced it out it was a couple hundred extra over a flat-tappet. i didn't have the money when i built my engine, but i could have managed it and i really regret not doing so.

Everyting good is expensive. The comp solid roller cam i am using in my new build cost $815 remember this is a custom grind. Well at least i will not have to buy lifters if i change the cam.

I'm putting together a Pontiac not a Chevy. I'm talking everything too, not just the cam and lifters.

but is it really $1000 more than a F-T? that's what i'm going by, the cost over a F-T cam.
