I just finished with the conversion, the stock Q-jet was gone and computer was not doing anything for the engine (ignition advance, fuel mixture, lock up converter, ect.) when I bought the car and after I ordered the carb to try to make it original again and recieved the wrong one I said screw it, I took out the stock distributor and ordered one for a 79 cutlass with a 350 put that in, got the converter lock up kit, and adjusted the idle mixture screws on the holley (that was on it when I got it) and it really runs great.

cost:
vac advance dist (1979 cutlass 350 olds) $99.99 (+$40.00 core) Autozone part # 30-1895
200r4 Lock up converter kit $149.99 Jegs part # 764-60110
4 bbl Carb (1979 cutlass 350 olds q-jet easiest for choke interchange) Autozone $219.99 (+$45.00 core) part # ND4305

$468.98 (+ tax and shipping)

(note: if your car has cruise control and it still works, you will have to make a bracket for your brake pedal switch for the lockup converter kit. mine doesn't work so I removed that switch and used it's hole.)

(Also don't forget, while your in there wiring up the transmission, change the filter, and also I changed my ign. coil while I was converting the dist.)

You will need to set your plug gap for the type of dist. you get, I used the one for a 79 cutlass with a 350 R so I had to get the plugs for that car and gap them at 45 rather than 60 or what ever the original gap was for the car.

with all the unexpected costs that come with the job, you can do a complete conversion for about $500 using new or rebuilt parts rather than salvage yard parts.

Good to hear it worked out for ya. I figured that would do it. That smog and electronic crap have made many cars run like s--t.

Every guy that likes something always spends a bunch of money on it. Be it cars, women, electronics, BEER! ( ) whatever. Us damn car guys have expansive taste. But it's all good. 8) We just look better then the geeks in the ecobox's.

A lot of people don't believe me when I say this, but headers and exhaust really wakes that motor up.
I put a set of cheap headers on my original motor with true duals and an x pipe. I know it's no big block, but for a 307 that thing would move. It would even keep up with my buddys '89 5.0 GT, despite being about 500 pounds heavier.
