    a/c hvac... cold air please....

Is there any Freon 12 left in the system? If not, then assume that it has been open to atmosphere for some time. You probably have a leak somewhere, and you will want to track that down before you spend gobs of money. Try turning the compressor by hand( not the pulley, but the center section...

front brake upgrade with a twist

If the speedway rotor is the Stock G body size, you can upgrade to the "Large" metric single piston caliper easily ( Wilwood, Speedway both have these. I like the Wilwood a little better)). Wilwood and SSBC also make a dual piston caliper that will fit. From listening to several others that...

new to site am currently working on 85 el camino

Monte SS should have had either 3.42 or 3.73, depending on years. Posi was still an option, though. Any G-body 7.5" rear will be a direct bolt in, but to get the ratio you want, with posi, you will have to do some searching. My Elky came with 3.08 posi, but that was the highest ratio Elky's...

Felony for Driving on Suspended? Opinions

If your driving on a suspended license, you are in fact driving without insurance as well, as the insurance company will use that as a reason to deny coverage if you are in a an accident. That is the reason that the penalty is so high, as you are putting other citizens at risk.

Felony for Driving on Suspended? Opinions

Just my 2 cents worth. If you are driving on a suspended license, your insurance ( if you actually have any) wont cover you in an accident. You are putting other lives ( both literally and financially) at risk should something happen. Should a bad accident happen, many folks can get hurt or...

    axle swap

The '79 has a different front spindle(IIRC they changed in '80) than the later G-bodies, so swapping the disk may or may not work. The axle swap should work, even if you have the 7 5/8" ring gear. I would try that first, as it is the simplest solution and you already have them.

Things I should know when looking...

Yes, for the smog. It can get real expensive trying to buy all the required devices if someone has removed them ( assuming they will even work if a modified engine has been installed). Some are not even available except used.

Things I should know when looking...

When I bought a car in CA, I made the owner go with me to a smog station and witness it passing smog. If it didn't pass, I didn't buy. You can expand your search to Las Vegas, and if you see something interesting, I can check it out for you. Probably less rust in a high desert car than even...

    Mystery Connection

The Grey tube comes from the HVAC controls inside the cab, and should be connected to the Heater Control Valve in the Heater Hose just before the Hater Core. The purple tube goes from Vacuum to the HVAC control in the cab to provide vacuum for activating the controls. This should be coming...

    TH200-4r removal

Get a tail plug for the trans. Goes where the driveshaft comes out. Keeps from spilling a lot of fluid. Harbor Freight has them ( IIRC).

    What rims fit...exactly?

S-10 rims will generally fit. I've used both 15" and now 16" S-10's with not issues. I went to 16" because I wanted to do the bigger brake upgrade all around, and new I would need bigger rims, plus I just liked them better  15" s-10 "swirl" rims 16" s-10 ZQ8 rims.

1986 monte ss Heat/Ac Vacuum line

Should be able to install without removing the dash. May have to remove the HVAC control to attach that end of the cable, but it comes out the front. Drop the Glove box to get to the other end . Do the HVAC control end first, then re-install the hvac control and attach at the blend door...

1986 monte ss Heat/Ac Vacuum line

The Blend door is operated by a cable attached to the temp slider on your HVAC control. If you are not getting heat, it's very likely that the bellcrank that the cable attaches to is broken. It is a common problem on G-bodies. Drop your glovebox and look up high on the top of the HVAC box...

    Power mirror conversion

I looked into this a couple of years ago. I think it might be possible to make them work, but they are very rare, and really expensive if you can find them. I had no luck, so switched to something newer that I could still mount in the same location. Details on my web page if you want to...

79 GMC Caballero ignition module removal.

Don't know if this will help, but here's a detailed description of dis-assembly of a tilt column. may give you what you need. Just hope the problem was not your start/neutral switch not being aligned. that would give the same indication. Details are now on page 3 of this thread, about 1/2...

    Diff ratios and posi swap?

The MonteSS came stock with 3.42 gears with a 3 speed Th350c and 3.73 gears with the 200-4r. Revs will depend some on your tire size, but with mine ( 200-4r and 3.73) I'm running 2500 rpm's at 75, and about 2000 at 60. The easiest swap would be a complete rear end out of another MonteSS...
