FWIW I found that the Chevy body was a bit tighter in the transmission tunnel area. I also used a BOP bellhousing behind a Pontiac and the straight clutch rod hit the floor so I persuaded the floor in about 2". The offset Chevy clutch fork is used for this reason. On my Bonnewagon everything fit much better, like it was suppossed to be there, including the clutch fork. As for the linkage hitting, lowering the tailhousing helps, but then you run the risk of the fan hitting the top of the shroud.

those instructions are BS...the pedal set up from an f body does not work in a G body...the pedals sit too high and too close to the driver and the housing is not even close to the G body housing.
I just read that link and he says nothing about f-body pedals. In fact this is the first line of his pedal section.
Unfortunately, the easiest mechanical linkage parts to bolt in can only be found in 1978-1981 GM A body cars.

your right...they used to have a section with photos explaining where to add tabs onto a F body housing...

I've got a factory 4 speed 78 Monte that now sports a Super T-10. The original saginaw 4 speed had a funky adapter plate that positioned the shifter to where it wouldn't hit the trans tunnel. I never really gave the adapter plate much thought though now realize it was likely to keep the shift rods from hitting the tunnel. I still have the original trans and adapter if anyone is interested in seeing what it looks like. I have no idea if it would work on a Muncy or B-W, i assumed it was made specifically for the Saginaw. The other oddity was that I had to reposition the shifter housing when I switched to the B-W. Seems like I moved it back about 4 or 5 inches to get it to line up with the shift levers on the Super T-10.

If any of you are interested I'd entertain offers on this show winner '78. I'm the original owner, 54K miles black t-top car, swapped the original 305 for a ZZ3 in '96. Have logged about 8K miles since.

Personally, if it was me I wouldn't even bother with the stock mechanical linkage. Just go to a hydraulic throwout bearing to make it easy.

And a modern trans like a TKO600 or T-56 would be easier to fit as far as the shifter goes since they don't have external linkage. With my T-56, the shifter came up in just about the exact same spot as the stock auto shifter in the console.

I know having a Muncie sounds cool and all but why limit yourself to just 4 gears with no overdrive when there are so many better options out there?

Bump....

I imported a 84 Monte Carlo SS from Mexico in January. It indeed has a 4-speed manual and a 350 cu.in crate motor. I am working on restoring it to its original glory and will keep you guys posted.

Should also have a Dana 44 rear end in it.

I heard that there were issues with importing cars that were originally intended for the Mexican market into the States, mainly due to concerns over emission controls. Did you have any problems importing your Monte? If you don't mind me asking, whereabouts are you?
