Has anyone here ever heard, or done this painting technique? I met someone a long while back who had his friend paint his car like that and it was like purple and black and looked like gator print. It was awesome but its such an oldschool technique nobody does it...

I recommend some practice, I've seen it done on a bike tank. You have to spray the color on, then before it flashes, lay the saran wrap on and peel it back off immediately. The two tone is done by applying the bottom color and let it flash, then lay on the second color and do the saran wrap before it flashes. I think there may be a specific reducer needed to slow the flash time on the color. I know there are paint forums that will likely be a better source of info.
Good luck.

Ah... I see. I will not take that information lightly.

I wanna know how to do it! Anybody know how its done?
it is also called marbleized or wrinkle finish
i do it occasionally on rc car bodies..here is a carbon fiber effect with some marbleizing

im no expert i just like playing around and cool when something works..basically your gonna shoot the base coat or backing colour first which on the first pic i poster was black and for the second car was silver..let it set, then your going to shoot the colour you want to marbleize ( pearl or metalics work best) and while its wet and hasnt flashed off you will apply your plastic wrap ..then right away your going to peel it off and what it does is create differnt thickness's of paint randomly, that combined with the pearl/metallics in the paint create the marble or bowing ball effect as the base will show through the thinner parts..hard to describe..lol, and its been awhile since i,ve done it but its just a basic rundown of how its done..there are far more refined techniques out there

How does it all look slick and not wavy to the touch? clear coat?
yes i forgot to add clearcoat as the last step, ..in the case of my rc bodies they are made of clear lexan so they get painted on the inside and no clearcoat is needed, the lexan is the clearcoat but i have to do the technique in reverse order. like i said its just a basic description of one particular method, i think there are custom paints and products out there now that are specifically made for these types of effects..i will try and find a link

I know that the larger the panel, the harder it is to do. Especially if you want it to go from panel to panel and not look like all the parts came from different cars. I saw it done on TV on a Mini, and they did the whole side of the car at once. It takes a couple people to pull that off. I don't know how it would be to repair it in the event of an accident?
