Long story, but pretty good. Hope you all read it.
Got off work Friday, went to my local watering hole to shoot some darts and decompress from the day. Buddy of mine shows up, said he just went to look at a car. Said it was really solid but needs a new roof skin, so he passed on it. Nice older lady selling it. Was her sons, but he was killed walking across the street 8 years ago. So there it sat. She decided to finally sell it as her husband now has dementia. They wanted it to go to a good home.
So she put an add in the paper. Not facebook, not craigslist.
I asked my buddy, what kind of car?
1967 Chevelle Malibu.
Umm, ok. I asked, is it still available?
He said, "I just got done looking at it. I didnt think of calling you but now that I see you figured I would pass it on."
He gave me the number, I called her and said I would take it sight unseen. She was already out for the evening for dinner but said tomorrow morning (Sat) I could come look at it around 9am.
I went to the bank, pulled out the cash and went back to the bar.
I got to ruminating on it, texted her, "My name is Craig, I just spoke to you on the phone. I just went to the bank and have the cash in hand for tomorrow morning. Cant wait to see it. Thanks and have a great evening".
She called me back, "I have been having so many phone calls on this, but you are 10 blocks from me, so instead of 9, you can come see it at 8 as I am an early riser in the morning as well".
Saturday morning, I am up at 5am. Showered cleaned, coffee and breakfast done. 715 am I get a call.
"So I have a couple guys who are wanting to get on the road. I told them it was already spoken for but they want to come anyways. You said you were up early every day as well, but if you can come now, please do".
Im out the door.
Showed up, pulled the car cover off. I was overjoyed. Handed her the cash, did receipt exchange, went to the notary at 8am, transferred the title. All the time she is getting phone calls telling them we were doing the title now and its sold. Couple guys still wanted to come.
I get my buddy and his trailer, as we are there loading it, guys started showing up "just had to see what I missed out on". I said sorry but early bird and all that and continued loading. They were flippers, looking to make a quick buck.
And now the reveal. I dont really want to disclose how much I paid for it, but it was a song.
Plans are to do a frame off on it.
Already have the interior out of it, truck is cleaned out, the only real rust is the roof. Everything else is completely solid. Floors, trunk, quarters, fenders, everything is really super clean. I have already been sending her updates via text and pics.. She said "I knew I sold it to the right person who will care for it".
So I am the extremely proud owner of a 67 Chevelle that I will take my time redoing.
So effn happy right now.
