A few years back now I seriously considered a 79 with what I found out was called Mojave interior...

I could have actually tolerated the car you looked at. The one I looked at had the non patterned parts a light tan. And the pattern on the one I looked at was a less appealing one. I also found an 84 supreme in the jy that was a bench seat brougham with t tops

1983 bare bones Grand Prix. V6 with AC but radio delete. Roll up windows, no power locks. School teacher lady ordered the car, Florida. She drove it to Ohio, oil pump went out, 50K mileage. This was 1997. Clean no rust car. $500. I still have the car but it's changed a bit. Seats gone, car is caged with racing seats. AC is still in dash could be hooked up. Car was raced with BB Olds, 11:37 @ 117 mph. Body is "resting" in one of my buildings presently. I hope to make a street car out of it one day. I have a 400 Pontiac engine and a 4 speed setup for a g body. I jokingly say, it's on the list. I'm presently working on a 1972 Cutlass Supreme even though I'm not crazy about a Supreme's looks. Oh well, it's my retirement hobby.

Your story is similar to mine. I have a 72 buick gs convertible that I restored from the frame up. I only use it for car shows. I also retired recently and wanted another car I could have fun with. I found a 82 Grand Prix, grannie owned, mint condition, 6 cylinder, no rust anywhere car in N.J. for 1200 bucks. I swapped the 6 for a Pontiac 400, did the 4- speed conversion, swapped in bucket seats, console, manual steering column, rally gauges, straight dual exaust, and posi rear. It's so much fun to drive. Good luck with your cars.

1986, i saw a black with silver, red interior olds cutlass salon coupe in timmins ontario. sweet looking daydream car for sure. i could not afford the 5000$ asking price back then. it had a 5 speed 260 combo as well. don't recall what year it was. boy i sure daydreamed about that one for a long time. it was my first g-body spark.

Parted out a base Cutlass Salon 4-door that had bucket seats, Buick 231 V6 2bbl, 3-speed Saginaw floor shift, PS, PB, AM/FM monaural radio, and body side molding. Rear frame was completely rotted out. Car was pulled from a barn in Maine after a 15 year sleep. Changed the oil, plugs, filters, replaced a few vacuum lines, and battery, and was able to get the car to run. Had connected the fuel line to a gas can with fresh gas, wasn't going to run it through the tank! Started on the second try and actually ran pretty good. Stripped the car and had originally pulled the motor too... but then put it back in and sent it to the salvage yard. Still have most of the parts.
