F*rd 8.8 is another alternative. Common, cheap, strong (in some ways better than a 9") and can bolt in with a few small modifications. They aren't the last word in rears at all, just a viable option.

Good points. I don't rag my stuff, just want a good cool ride at a reasonable cost. The more input the better as this is out of my line of what little expertise that I have. I get that you cannot have it ALL.

How much power do you have? If your not beating on it the 7.5 will stand up. Couple thousand is a lot of money.

A fully-built Currie 9-inch for G-Bodies is about $4,500. Yes, jaw-dropping money, but the list of hardware is drool-worthy.

A Moser full floater is right around that. Discs and all though, if that makes the plunge into it more tolerable. Pretty sick setup though.

If that's the money you're droppin', I'd lean toward the Strange Dana 60. It's as strong, has bolt in axles, is lighter, and more efficient than a 9". Frods rob power, and unless you're going big block or crazy boost, you will be sucking up a drivetrain loss.

It is a lot of money and it puts my 357HP crate motor delayed even longer. I want to do it right the first time as I am too broke to do again. I like "Cool" on a ride so it is a tough decision. Like I say I don't rag my stuff....but...there are occasions when...I lapse into....when a true friend is sitting next to you in jail saying "Damn that was fun"

fleming442, thanks for the tip. I like some of Strange's offerings, but it doesn't look like I can get the ratio I want with the Dana. I know everyone's going to say I should get 3.73s or 4.10s, but doing the math, I think I want to get a 3.00 or 3.08. Reason being is I want a mellow highway ride, and decent MPG. With the gearing of the 4L60/4L70, that would mean I'm only turning about 2,000 RPM at 70 mph. If I do end up doing an LS3 or Gen-V LT1, those engines should have plenty of power where I could get away with a taller rear end.

That strange 60 is a pretty good deal, thats a lot of value for the price! If I didn’t find a third member for super cheap I would have probably done that.
