Hi y'all. Well, I've been on GBF for a little less than a year, but it's already my favorite online destination! Well, after a lot of chatter and big promises, my wagon is finally home, and I've popped the hood, and started wrenching on it. Unfortunately, being a nearly 40 year-old car that has sat for at least the last 7 years, a lot of the pieces on it are brittle, fragile or stubborn (don't want to come off/loose.)
The first order of business is taking off the carburetor to take it to a shop to get rebuilt. Unfortunately, the fuel line is being especially stubborn, and the lock nut that attaches to the filter housing is completely chewed up. (See below)
Also, as expected, the gas tank "smells like varnish." Definitely dropping the tank and inspecting (and likely replacing). Thankfully, the wagon tanks are relatively cheap on RockAuto. Predicting a full-fledged flush/clean-out of the fuel system. I'm sure there are a bunch of other things I'll find along the way that need fixing/replacing, but I know that's part of the adventure. Anyway...Even with all the bloody knuckles, curse words and unforeseen setbacks, I couldn't be happier to finally have the car here, and start the process of getting it running and driving again!
