Maybe not that bad.... I had a Comp XE268 in my 400G; never did run the CR, but it was a dog down low. Comparatively, the hydraulic roller in my 468 is puny, and hauls @$$.

thank you all for your reply's. so from above comments --> i can use that CAM kit from amazon that i mentioned above on my stock engine with 5A heads and push it over 200HP but it wouldnt be that much if i go with other set of heads instead . one other concern that i have with this kit is valve and piston clearance with this new cam shaft. does it going to hit the piston because of more valve opening or its gana be ok??

seriously though

you cant just throw a cam into a 200HP engine and expect 300HP

like said above

port work, larger valves, since they are apart new valve guide seals, spring seats/shims hardened seats and springs to match the cam

if the car is just a "cruiser" 🥴 and runs good like it is I would leave it alone and enjoy it.

When you blow it up.

Then build it the right way

yes it runs nice and what i can see is to let it run as it does and build it from scratch when its broken. thank you all for your advises.

A stock running complete olds 350 can be bought off craigs list for around 300 when they pop up. right now there is one in connecticut for sale for that

You could always pick that up and throw it in while you rebuild the 403

When you do have that 403 rebuilt make sure the machine shop knows Olds engines

They are not chevys!!!!!!!!!!!!

No issues valve to piston clearance on Olds V8's until way above that. I know .500" is no issue, I think even .600" is fine, coil bind would be more of a concern. An Olds 350 with the new Billet Steel 5140 or 4340 4" stroker cranks is the way to go. More cubes and a much stronger block than the 403 and much lighter reciprocating assembly than a 455 with smaller mains and rod bearing journals.
