In Mexico, General Motors produced this generation in the Ramos Arizpe plant, which was sold during three years (1979 to 1981). Mexican versions came in three trim levels (Chevelle, Malibu and Malibu Classic) and two body styles (sedan and coupe) with the 250 cu in (4.1 L) I6 as basic engine and the 350 cu in (5.7 L) 260 hp (194 kW) V8 as the optional; this engine was standard on Malibu Classic models during those three years. This was possible because the Mexican emissions regulations remained relatively free at the time.

I don't put a ton of faith in Wikipedia on stuff like this, since pretty much anybody can put anything in there, and not cite any source for their info. Could be true, could be "A guy told me that......"

I wish mine was red. I have the navy blue.

I have navy in my wagon, and had it in my second coupe. I used to hate it (all cars should have black interiors) because my folks always bought blue cars with blue interiors, but I can count the number of red interiors I didn't hate on one hand.

I wish it was black. With it being blue, it won’t clash horribly when I paint the car the BMW blue, or some variation of it. Done the line I’ll change it to black or something dark gray.

Back in the late 1990s a stripped a couple dozen cars worth of seats to stock up on the covers, 1981-1984 regal red pallex cloth in variety of buckets and bench and 1986-1988 cutlass supreme blue in bench seat interiors to save for the future.

I've got a lower inventory on my c/k trucks though... 2 blue interiors and one green.

People tend to buy whatever automakers build. But I miss the day you went in and there was this big old binder with 8 or 10 interior options and a page full of paint colors to pick from.

I don't think so. I think the stitching/pleat on the regal is different pattern from the monte, the covers don't have any vinyl on the sides or armrests, and I'm not sure if the coloring would be the same or not.

As far as the diamond patterning size into the cloth, I do know my regals used the same stuff as you'd see on a grand national cover or a stock 80s c/k series truck cover if those references help.

That 81 century wagon posted earlier today has a front seat same color.

Color may be the same, if it isn't it's very close.

The stitching into the fabric is different though. Doesn't have the horizontal pleat aside from the upper front backs, and, I think higher up.. and doesn't have the double stitch pleats vertically on the edge of each occupants sitting area. Also uses a vinyl piping trim on the edges before using a flat cloth wrapping sides and backs instead of vinyl.
