Has anyone used the light blue dye from Dixie restoration? I have used the light blue dye from gbodyparts.com. The color is like a shade off from original, like it has a slight greenish tint to it. I know the colors very from screen and cameras. But could someone share some pictures of their results? I have added pictures of my results with the gbodyparts light blue. The last picture of the complete interior is the light blue it was supposed to be. I can live with it, especially how much the dye cost. But it’s making getting my dash wrapped in vinyl nearly impossible, either one vinyl is to blue or too green.

I don’t buy my paint from Dixie Restoration Depot or gbodyparts.com. Why? Because they’re middleman trying to make a profit. All you need to do is take your color code to a body shop supply store and have them mix up some SEM in a can. Do you have your color code? That is the first step.
A few years ago I sprayed close to 25 pieces of a friends 79 Camaro interior in a similar blue. He had a quart of SEM mixed at a body shop supply. It was a pretty close match but the dash and console in his car were a shade darker than the rest of the interior from the factory.
What about getting the vinyl from SMS Fabric ? That way you might be about to get correct color for the year since they sell OEM GM material.

Two things..
IT"S NOT DYE. It's paint, pure and simple. Dye penetrates the material used and changes the fiber coloring.
People generally compare the paint to the 30-40 year old exposed portion of their interior that they are trying to match. Guess what? Sun (UV rays) affect the color. You should look for an area of the piece that was not exposed to sunlight. Sides of the rear seat cushion are a good place, as they never see sunlight when installed.
The SEM I used matches the backside of the lower door panels, dash insert, and side panels VERY VERY closely, yet the fronts and the upper door panels are totally different, due to differing materials and the effect the UV rays have on the actual dyes used in the manufacturing of them.

Also, Items like the molded vinyl console lid are going to be slightly different in color than the molded plastics of the trim pieces, or the heat-shrink vinyl used on the dash, or the vinyl yardage used in seats and door panels.
I think this is best pointed out by the bumper covers on pretty much every car manufactured in the last 30 years...they are never exactly the same as the painted steel or hard plastic parts of the car. Even when a bumper is painted with the very same paint out of the very same cup of the spray gun, they appear slightly different when finished. The major paint manufacturers have gone so far as to print and distribute point-of-delivery brochures explaining this.

I've always painted everything, that way if it's a shade off from original... everything looks brand new 👍
Ribbedroof is 100% correct. UV changes the original colors. When I was trying to buy the gray for my dash I sent the glovebox door directly to them to have it matched. They matched the color to the INSIDE of the door after I seperated it from the box.
My friends Camaro faded to multiple colors. Light blue on some, the rear panels on the sides of the seat turned a light gray and a couple of pieces looked like a milkish white/gray.
Also if you redo the plastic panels they come out so much nicer if you use a small spray gun and a compressor. I know not everyone is set up to do that but a gun atomizes the color coat so much finer and you dont lose the grain in the plastice as much. SEM Color Coat is so easy to use. No thinning. Mix it, put it in the cup and spray. Its just prepping the pieces before you do it that takes long.
I've used Sem seamist for my 84 its close enough and had held up great
I did all of my interior plastics with SEM from a spray can decades ago, I had a dark gray dash, blue center console and light gray interior panels and changed them to camel and black landau and finished them with SEM low luster clear.
Luckily none of mine were sun faded or deteriorated and good prep is the key to making them last.
