Should of added this but just never thought about since I was focused on the internal guts. Here is the only mirrror frame I have for the right side, GM p/n 5972972. Not sure if the left side would be 5972971 or 5972973.

They originally had boots glued on but not needed as all the later frames don't have them. To be honest if I had a pair I'd get some made with 3D printing.

Also since I forgot about bringing this up, would anyone know if 3D printing would be stong enough for the motor brackets.

Searching for the needed mirror frame I came across this (which I totally forgotabout) that 88AZSS posted when he did his.

This one is for a member who hasn't been on since '19. He put '92-'99 Buick LeSabre (H body) mirrors on his El Camino.

This is from montecarloss.com & it's more for the '86-'88 Monte & '86-'87 Elky.

Now I may have everything for the sport mirror conversion as I just bought another set of C3 parts mirrors that has the needed driver side mirror glass frame. Having both sides along with the metal motor mounts I can look into getting some made as I got contact info from a local place that does both plastic & metal 3D printing. Might have a chance for anyone with sport mirrors to convert to power.

Now after digging out the mirrors that were originally part of the plan I have seen the easy part of the conversion & the not so easy part. The easy is the driver side just needing to remove the cable & put the Vette guts in. Looks like the head is the same but not 100% as I don't want to cut cables on a good mirror so the need for one that is already cut or seized is there. Now with the not so easy part the means of the guts getting put in only allows one mounting screw to hole it all together for now. I don't have a cable remote passenger side so I have no idea if there is a difference in the pedestal between of that type of the manual one which I have. But what is the rear screw position on my mirror is the front position on the Vette power mirror. The lower motor mount screw post is right where the front screw would go. It looks like there might be a possible to make a spot with metal putty that could be tapped for a screw to secure it but it'll be really short. Another theory would be using the rear screw hole as a set screw but would need a small pocket that doesen't put a hole in the pedestal as there isn't really much of a spot for that. Now on this side the heads are interchangeable so they have all the needed holes. The pedestals don't. There are also other things that are really different on Vette pedestals compaired to ours. The spacing for the mounting studs are off by about .25", ours are about 3" spacing with the Vettes being 2.75". Ours are taller dispite the varying angle pitch to match the specific door. The shape is different which is in part of the stud spacing. With out having them side by side they do look alike. I'll have to work on getting pictures to show what I'm rambling on about. Then I do need to see the guts of a passenger side cable remote mirror to see if they are different in any way from the manual ones. Also will need to put feelers out for a Monte (or what else interchanges which I know was posted some time back) driver side mirror that has either cut or seized cables.

Add an edit to the last posting the driver side heads are the same as all my driver side heads have "72041" casted on the inside. The passenger side heads have "72021" casted. I would guess that pretty much all sport/bullet mirrors are going to have the same heads.

Here's a pic I pulled off Ebay of a G body passenger side remote.

Looks like I really do need the pedestal from one of these mirrors as the mounting & cable holes will match up to the guts from the Vette mirror. So now it's time to post an add for someones junk mirror.

Now I'm starting to think the passenger mirror I've had for over 25 years might not of been ment for our cars. Just found this one in another add for a manual.

Now I'll need to look into this more. If anyone have one loose & able to get pics of the same spot post them. Might be easier yet for the conversion.

No idea if this is of any help, only other mirrors are installed on cars.

This is a NOS 77- 82 Corvette right side remote mirror, GM 461066. Date code 6 DMI 9. Has a short cable that has the remote in the door. Saved because it might be a spare for one of the el caminos never noticed the remote cable is too short, wonder what else is different.
