Finished my 383 stroker in my 1980 Monte. Getting ready to start plumbing the A/C system. Nothing like feeling cool in a cool ride. Anyway, I was ready to replace the accumulator but I am not too pleased with my option for a new accumulator. The ones at NAPA have a secondary pipe coming off the bottom to fit 3 different styles and I am not too keen on having more pipe connections and seals. I did find one accumulator listed as UAC that had a one piece pipe welded to the tank that matched the bend I needed, however it was 3/4 the size and came with the seal caps loose (no telling how much moisture was absorbed), I guess you get what you pay for.. I was more concerned with the shorter design on the UAC which would mess with my calculations of how much R134a I need.
So it looks like I have only 2 options for a new replacement accumulator, the UAC brand that is being sold by many sellers on ebay and amazon that is shorter and may or may not be vacuum sealed. Or the brand that NAPA and many of the big parts retailers use, which all look the same and have the secondary tubes included.
I am planning on buffing the accumulator to a shine before installing, but for now just looking for some good buying options out there. Has anyone seen any that work great? or the ones a NAPA seem ok?
