Hello all. I’ve benefited over the years from all of your knowledge and it feels like time to get involved. I started with an 87 Cutlass that I oval track raced in Calgary for about a dozen years. When the track closed and the car was sold (except for the engine), I felt the need to have another project taking my time, space and money.
The answer was an 88 Cutlass found in Blackfalds, Alberta. If I could do it over, I would have searched for a better car to start with. The frame was rusted out behind the rear axle, and it also has rust in the typical areas of the body. Any of the parts that were in decent condition were parts I intend to replace anyway!
The dream is to end up with a stock car/street car hybred. I’m currently working on the frame, replacing and reinforcing various areas that are rusted or notoriously weak. It will be backseat delete, allowing me to heavily modify the floor pans to allow for exhaust and frame mods.
The SBC from the stock car will go in, and likely a four speed Richmond. Full suspension and brake upgrades planned as well.
I expect it will be a loud, stripped down street car, and I’m building it accomodate big horsepower, (pretending I can afford it someday).
I’ve included some pics of the current status, and will update as I go. I feel I have some intimate knowledge of these G-body cars, and have some expertise in fabrication, welding and metal work. I hope I can offer some insight to others working on the same kind of projects!
Thanks for the great forum. It’s the best place for any G-body related information.
