Here is my build so far 454 block bore 60 over and 4.25 stroke (496). I am using stock 781 heads. Will be doing bigger valves. Forged pistons and rods. Scat crank. 10-1 compression (18cc). I bought a isky roller can setup. But thinking 650 lift might be over kill. Should I just sell and go with a flat tappet and invest my money else where?

The car will be on the street 98% of the time

Roller is the way to go. What are the duration specs on the cam?

Is it the cam Isky lists as for jet boats? It may not have the best street manners. And I doubt there will be any vacuum for power brakes.

Stay with the roller since you already have it. I tried to save money so I went with a flat tappet in my 496. It's not worth worrying about losing a lobe everytime you drive it. When I get a few extra pay checks I will be making the swap to a roller. If you decide on selling your setup what would you want lol?

I have a roller, but it seems like people have been, and are, running flat tappers with way more HP...all the time...on the street and track..and they are fine.

I use a Zinc additive for that exact reason

Too many benifits from a roller (other than maybe cost) to not run one IMO.

X2. Go roller. I still kick myself for saving a measly 200 bucks by putting a flat tappet in my cutlass. I've read so many wear tests on different oils and additives that I don't know which brands to trust anymore. With a roller you can run whatever oil you prefer and be safe.

Not to mention rpms...
