Converting TBI to roller...?

Are you going to keep the engine after the truck expires?

Probably not. Not a Chevy guy, I only bought it because it was there and cheap. Plus so my crackhead aunt wouldn't get it.

I've got new heads for it, freshly machined for $80. It ran fine before, or about as fine as a somewhat neglected 230,000 mile TBI 350 can. It does seem to have a slightly worn lobe on #5, but I'm not about to put a cam in anything. Didn't clack or make noise so eff it.

So why was this motor torn down in the first place?

I wonder how that happened? These trucks have huge radiators. I did have the high mile factory plastic tank let go on my 95. If I find the right truck, it will get the two core, 34" core optional radiator.

My 88 didn't have the 34" radiator, it had the smaller brass version and that wasn't super effective. Both my 8 luggers have the 34x19 double row and the 1500 has the single row 34x17. Those get it done.

I've done a 350 .040 TBI vortec heads with a roller L98 cam. Had to plop a LT1 spark map into the tune to make it run worth a damn. There's been numerous post all over the web by screen name Fast355. He's made the claim that you can run some healthy cams on the stock TBI tune by giving it enough fuel with bigger injectors or cranking the fuel pressure. Then goes on to say it likes a little more ignition timing instead of the factory 0, he recommends bumping it up to 6, 8, 10 or 12 depends on what the engine likes.
Fast355 led me to my cam for a 383. With Summit Vortec heads, .028 head gasket he ran the numbers and figured I was at 9.6:1 and recommended Lunati 20080130 for my truck. Still have to get it IN the truck, but I bought ANOTHER truck since then. The "new to me" 1967 C10 may just get this 383.

It was for my 1978 C10 with TH350, 3.08 gears and 28.9" tires, and was for torque between 2000-3500 rpm.

FYI, The roller retainer has been called both a "frog" and a "spider" for the number of fingers it come with. If you prefer new to E-Bay, Summit Racing or Rock Auto might have what you need at a decent price.
