You probably aren't wrong. Just providing full disclosure. I've always been pretty good at the pre-buy inspection thing. This one had a couple surprises for me though. I'll still get my pound of flesh...eventually. I'll turn it loose after it pays me my hundred grand, just like the last one.

My mileage reference had a purpose. At 20k miles, it's already paid for itself. The rest is just profit.

I was spitballin' project ideas with my dad this afternoon. He's bored. My uncle has a really nice TPI car that just sits in his garage. It could be had pretty cheap. My dad has the itch to LS swap something (like it's 1999). Thought this might be a good candidate for some resto-mod treatment. He was looking at early C3s but there's just no profit in it without patience and a 60k investment. I was thinking a high RPM puller might be fun with a stick.

I've driven them both. In all respects, the C4 chassis is superior. They've found the bottom of the market, so they're a bargain right now.
When I was a kid my dad had a '68 Roadster L-79 4spd. It was cool, but wouldn't touch his relatively lame '86 Z51 in the twisties.

The thing that was notable about the '68 is that the 327 really revved while the pathetic TPI 350 fell on its face at 4500rpm.

I'm always curious what the turnoff is for someone who isn't into Corvettes, what is it for you?

I have owned both a C3 and C4 in the past. The C4 is more of a "you put it on" experience as opposed to getting in it, and a boatload of fun. Mine was an LT1 car, which I preferred both powerplant and styling-wise compared to the TPI cars

C4 all day long over a C3

I don't even mind the New Balance and knee-high Diabetes socks stigma.

It's mostly that every time I go to a cruise night or car show, half of the spaces are taken up by bone-stock 90s and 2000s Corvettes that collectively have 20,000 miles on them and every single one has some sign explaining how it's super rare, 1 of 1 or whatever. Meanwhile there are five identical ones in the same parking lot. I've really got nothing against them but if I never saw another one in my life I wouldn't cry.
