82 Malibu Wagon in New Zealand

If you are shipping around the world, avoid choosing one with the filler next already attached. Have a radiator shop unsolder your filler neck and swap it to the new tank.

These tanks are damaged by poor packaging - inadequate padding inside a huge box, or with the fill tube left hanging out of a smaller box and bent or cracked when used as a convenient handle by the package handlers. I shipped one back to Rockauto and mercifully, a second one survived the trip packaged the same way.

Also before ordering measure your tank! There was supposed to be two available one was more gallons/liters than the other and the depth was the difference. Please double checked my statement but I believe there was.

Good point. So naturally RockAuto only has with filler neck already attached. Oh well.

Spectra has it available with or without and you can even get it through Amazon. But would think Jegs or Summit might pack it better for a trip like that. And FYI: they make a 17 gallon tank and a 22 gallon tank, so you definitely want to measure it!
So not wanting to chase down all 20 pages( went through the first 6) what year is she? Might (very iffy!!) , might be able to get my hands on a tank sitting in an NOS aftermarket storage. I can’t remember if it’s for a wagon/ ElCamino or a Cutlass/Regal/GPrix. I believe they’re all the same tank for G-body wagons 1978-up?

Bought an inspection camera the other day & got brave haha & checked out the tank on this old girl, from what i could see the tank looks in bloody good order but she's sure got some stale fuel in there, will chuck in 20 litres or so of fresh gas when i'm ready to fire her up. Still a heap of little stuff to do & still waiting on the brake master cylinder, got the new calipers & rear wheel cylinders here. I think apart from the rear drums & front rotors everything under this will be pretty much new. All the steering arms are in & has steering again at last.
One new shock in but will have to drop the right spring down again as the top rubber isolater has came off the spring & blocking the shock going up, easy sort but a pain in the but. Hope the master cylinder turns up soon then I can button up the brakes, just going to get her on the road as is then we can sort the panel & paint when we can shes been sitting long enough

Picture of 87 Caprice Street/Show starter setup. Quick disconnect is out of frame. I used a piece of new clean 3/8 Fuel Line as protection for the wires. The disconnect was mounted in junction box on passenger firewall. Heat Blanket was not mounted yet, but once it is, to change starter, disconnect main cable, disconnect solenoid quick disconnect and remove bolts..., drop out starter.

Done a we bit this arvo, sat the front on the Malibu. Good to see that on again, have to paint that black behind & I’ll get new bolts & clips for it. Might as well keep replacing everything like I’ve been doing, need to have a rearrange & cleanup this week while sorting her. Do the brakes - power steering - alternator & all the water works, get her in for the exhaust the following week
