Hello all.

any experience with this ?

I hear knocking and a bit of play on what looks like to be a bearing or sleeve where it comes through firewall.

anyone know if this is a easy fix ?

Trying to envision it, not having one in front of me at the moment. Pull the facia under the dash ... Usually phillips screws... Check the clamp bolts that are typically 15 or 16 mm and also the 10 mm bolts in the clamp. Inspect base plate bolts that are 10 mm speed screws typically...

If all good, break the rag joint connection ... Just a basic R&R... Remove base plate clamp bolts, disconnect electric connectors and pull column and inspect.

Hutch did a real good vid on rebuilding a steering column. I was going to do one on the Caprice project because of all the damage from previous "mechanic", but after viewing his, no reason reinvent the wheel.

When you can, watch his video, but before tearing into yours. His vid was excellent and shows how the column is put together.

Let me know, I have a 86 Monte tilt unit if you need one.

I believe the Gbodys came with a plastic bushing. I replaced the one on my Malibu with a bearing type used in Astro vans.
Pretty simple, unbolt the steering sector shaft at the top and move aside. Basically you just pull the clip and remove. Assembly just the opposite.

Thanks. Just watched a few videos on this
