What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

Chose not to proceed with cutting spot welds todaty, mostly because I have to hit the body shop and get some more of the cutter heads. For a tool that is supposed to cut welds, they sure seem to die a quick death.

What had been bugging me was the need to pay a visit to the engine in my Monte and do an engine oil prime on the oil system. I had thought that I had done this back in early summer but the memory slip on the rocker cover said last December!! Since the primer driver is still socketed into the boss for the distributor, all it it took was about 10 minutes of stop and start motoring with the 1/2 inch drill to get all the pushrods passing oil and getting it to drool its way down the rockers and into the head valley. When I first set up the primer system I added a mechanical oil gauge and use it to show me how much pressure the oil pump is putting out due to being driven by the drill motor; 60 pounds, +/-. Which is good because it is enough to push oil into and through all the passages and galleries and get it to where it needs to be. Even though the drill motor is supposed to be a heavy duty unit, it does get slightly warm by the end of all this.

After that it was just a case of replace the storage rocker covers and then cover the whole engine bay back up.

It will be Monday before I get over to the Auto shop to pick up those cutters plus some push pin fasteners for the eggcrate filler and some of those thin metal stud retainers that always seem to have to be torn out as they don't want to come off when you need them to.

Right on, I love a driveway job. It almost looks pearlescent in that 2nd pic. I call these paint jobs ""88 Specials" because they're guaranteed to look good from 8 feet away after 8 p.m. but it looks good in the pics too.

Someday it’ll get a real paint job.
To be honest I just want to drive the thing. The kids can careless with how the paint looks they just want me to take them to school and do burnouts in it.
Ideally once it’s “Done” mechanically I would do some real paint work. My fear is so that I would be too scared to drive it around at that point.
Ultimately what I want this car for is to mess around, scare some Mustangs and Hellcats. Along with the occasional drag and drive.

So wheres the pic of these mashed taters?
Well..those are in the septic tank now. 🤣
I'm sure the wife has a couple dozen or pics and videos!

Picked up the car at 3pm at the alignment shop, it drives very nice now and my wife and I went for our first ride together, it was apart when we met back in 1991. We went by a local sign shop across town to get an idea on cost for putting the factory painted striping back on the car. They were very busy but came outside in spite of it being late and dark out. I described what I wanted and they were very interested in the job and asked if I would send some reference photos. They are going to call tomorrow with a better idea on cost as they were in the middle of a few jobs this evening. My wife and I rode around a bit on some quiet roads and stopped at our local pizza joint to grab dinner and head home. No highway driving yet but it sure is nice around town and responds to the throttle nicely with the new 3:73 gear set. Will take it on the highway next time out to go and visit my folks. Engine is running great in spite of my questionable tuning skills. 18 degrees at idle and 30 all in on the mechanical advance. I may give it more later on but for now not pushing it too hard since it sat for so long.
