81 Malibu project restarting

This is the thread on the poor H/O. Parts of her live on, some are even in my Malibu.

Possible 1979 w30 purchase

A buddy of mine bought a 79 w30 with t tops. It was a pretty rough car but could’ve been made into a decent driver. The other night he spun out and wrecked the rear of the car. I was thinking of buying it from him and parting it out. Unfortunately as rough as it was and now with the whole *ss...

Loving the color on this Malibu. I’d go darker wheels and blackout the trim. Some inspiration , if I ever paint mine.

Cleaning the garage I found a pick from when I first got the car. I may have posted it already, but I also had a pic from the local cruise a week or so ago. It may not be finished, but I like the look much more now. If only k could get moving on the engine rebuild to match the look. The 305/350 with shift kit/ 3.08 posi , is still better than the V6/ metric trans/2.41 open it came with.

Went to go grab an engine for my neighbor on Black Friday. It was supposed to be an older 2 piece rear main seal engine. When I got there it turned out to be a one piece engine, but I decided to grab it anyway. Turned out to be a gm good wrench replacement 880 4 bolt main block. Oil pan had zero sludge and the bottoms of the cylinder walls. Pulled the intake, and its drilled for a roller cam. Not a bad score for $100 engine that was thrown in the dumpster.

The 1 piece seal blocks are just fine. We started using them at the race shop and they were fine for anything not needing an SHP block.

The block being 1 piece is a score. I already had 2 vortec engines at home, but one wasn’t drilled for a mechanical pump. This one’s is so, I gave my neighbor the other short block. He originally was looking for a decent 2 piece crank and 2 rods, due to a spun rod bearing.
