i have a used posi carrier to install in my 7.5 rear i;m not touching the pinion just putting my ring gear on the new carrier i have a formula to measure carrier preload ... total inch pounds of pinion and carrier minus inch pounds of pinion only multiply that number by gear ratio = carrier preload my question is what should my carrier preload be with used bearings ? and should i use locktite on ring gear bolts and bearing caps ? thanks all for your help with my winter project if temperature matters i;m doing this in my basement work shop temps about 65 deg

I would loctite the ring gear bolts. I've never loctited the bearing cap bolts. Just torque them properly. As far as carrier preload, I've just put the small shims in, and leave the thickest shim until last and tap it in with a hammer. As long as you have to use a little force to put it in, the bearings are preloaded.
thats what i have read you adjust carrior preload by feel..... bracketchevy when you tap the biggest shim in i guess the carrior is fully seated ? being retire is great i got free time and i enjoy working on my cars not to mention no dumb boss.. i wonder why they have a formula for measuring carrior preload but no specs as what it should be. thanks all for your help
they used to have a casing spreader that went in the oils holes of the case and you’d expand it to spread the bearings and then release it after the carrier and shims were in so you could preload it. But I never had one, it was more a dealer item.
Used gears should have pinion rotational torque of 25-35 in/lbs. without the seal installed.
When pre-Loading the carrier bearings I always set it up two zero end play, then add .004-.006” more carrier shim for the preload. Be sure your bearings and races are lubed and they are in good condition - no pitting or race defacing.
