holley carb transfer slots

it looks like someone staked my transfer slots with a small screw driver has anyone ever seen this before. it ran good but had hesitation before it warmed up i don;t know if i can fix this or get a new base plate. because it;s a reverse idle meaning you back out the mix screws to lean it out i have read it was an emissions carb list number 80451 any carb gurus out there ?

I dont see a replacement base plate available for the emmisions model, not sure if a standard 600cfm base plate would work,

Unless its giving you any serious issues, i say continue to use i, if so, may i suggest you replace the entire unit with a regular 600cfm carburetor.

i;ll put it back in the car i put in new teflon throttle shaft seals that tightened up the throttle shaft so it will be better ..maybe the end of the transfer slots was staked because back then they wanted hardly any ignition advance that would mean you had to crank up the idle uncovering to much of the transfer slots notice the little hole just under the transfer slot . thats my best guess anyway. thanks for your input
 
Things that make you go hmm..... Basically a 4160 square board 600 CFM, but it was developed specifically as a emission controlled replacement and it is discontinued, I.E.: no longer available through Holley.

Theoretically you could replace the base plate with another 600 CFM 4160 throttle body. However, you need to find out if that would actually work, based off of what other changes were made to the internal passages that routes the fuel to the Venturi.

At this point you are already having trouble with the carburetor, you might be better off just replacing it with an Edelbrock or another Holley. This really depends on what manifold you have. If it's a square bore manifold then it's going to be easier and less expensive to just stay with the square bore carburetor.

If you're using a spread bore manifold and an adapter, then it might be better just to go back to a Quadrajet, or the spread bore Holley. Then the other thing to look at is the future of your engine build. Are you wanting it to stay as it is now or are you wanting to improve it? So you would also might want to look at maybe going larger than a 600 CFM and going with the 650 or 750 CFM, yet that would have to be a decision you would have to make.

i have a ederbrock duel plane manifold on a mild 350 and no plans to upgrade it thought about a quadrajet trying to keep costs down cause i;m working on a posi rear i have a carter afb i bought before ederbrock bought out that design the issue i have with the afb is there isn;t any provision for the trans kick down cable anyone know what the add on bracket looks like ? ..it was ok on my mopar but i replaced it a couple of years ago that car had vapor lock issues don;t know if the carb was at falt cause i added a fuel return at the same time to the mopar thanks for being my sounding board my friends don; t tinker with their cars
 
Possibly the Holley geometry corrector kit, about $30.00

I used the AFB going back to 1982, yet the Mopar and Ford linkage is different than the GM if I remember correctly.

Back then I would just make my own by chucking up a quarter inch bolt into the drill and using a rat tail file to shape it. Nowadays there are several sources, and basically what you need is the screw on fixture or button that will allow the connection on the kickdown cable to hook up.

Personally, if it was me... because of that idle transfer slot damage/modification/whatever, id be done with that emmision style carb anyways and just get a standard holley 600cfm unit, holley has their own kickdown bracket for TH350 and throttle valve cable bracket for the 2004R/700R4 transmissions, just make things easier on yourself.

Picture of bore looks like someone ran the idle mix screws in to tight " ? and that raised the metal a shad ...they may have tapped it back down with a deepwell socket...could the butterfly disc be nurffing the slot were it rests if so proubly not relevant and its My guess as far as I know not unusual to have separate transitional slot or little holes on other old carbs .somehow I doubt the carb is such as a reverse mixture the only ones I know of are on old early 60 carter of such and usually have the air bleed on the rear of the throttle..if the front bleed screws ( idle mix) aren't enriching I would think wrong gasket ( excuse me if I'm wrong )somewhere or Grose vacuume leak extent somewhere...since I'm not able to see more not much point in me guessing..oh one more thing do other holleys have the reamed look under the butterflys ?well it seems to be done well enough...check the default idle adjustment on primary and secondary butterflys should not slam tight as to wedge ...ok thanks ...for the post goodluck

it really is a reverse idle mix screw the sticker is still on it counter clockwise to lean it messed me up too i googled it a hundred ways to find out it is a emissions carb ...

Learn something new everyday "...im not a holley pro I just did the old schoolbus Holly's that had govenors and swoped gaskets on a couple vet holleys
