Xtreme Performance Transmissions?

I ran a Hughes converter for years and never had a problem. It flashed and stalled exactly where it was supposed to. It worked extremely well. This was many years ago mind you, it’s entirely possible (probable?) that the quality has changed since then.
I don't have extensive personal experience with them but I've seen multiple that were just plain bad (more TCI than Hughes). Friends of mine at the strip as well as the doughnut had issues with chatter, improper stall speed, and the stator. I know one guy that lost a season because of TCI. Everyone makes mistakes, and it's been quite a while since this happened but it seems there are "better" options available nowadays. They certainly ran at the head of the pack for a while, and still do for some, but I have a hard time trusting any of the old mainstays because the generation that took over can't be trusted to know their product anymore. Yank, Circle D, and Pro Torque appear to be superior in my eye but it's good to hear a positive review. Enough of them will get me to change my mind.

Still no positive information but thought I'd post the reply to a YouTube comment of mine on an Aces Quick Draw video.

i feel a lot's changed out there.I'm a believer there's always a +/- percentage of faulty units with most anything manufactured, it happens rite? A buddy of mine bought a 727 from tci and it leaked at the pump seal.he called them, they song and danced because he's not running a tci converter-the pump seal isn't going to seal properly etc etc.so takes bait, springs for their unit,we r&i everything, still leaks.they send us another unit, this one's worse.(at this point my buddies reallllly not happy)they say"here's the BOL,send this one back, and we'll send you another unit on the house & refund your money".my buddy flipped that unit on marketplace and had his O.G unit rebuilt through a friend of a friend that he didn't know exsisted.no problem. every time we marked the units in such a way to make sure we weren't getting the same one over and over.
like Smitty in Hollywood knights said"nothing stays the same remember that"...

I wouldn’t buy any trans from an internet site. But I also don’t buy anything from internet people (that I don’t know) that I can’t return.

I contact every vendor, on the phone, that I purchase from. If they make me feel uneasy in the conversation, then I leave them alone.

Rock solid advice!

I'd run away from the Aces EFI.

It's tangentially related to FITECH and there are widespread reports of it being inconsistent, Aces from my understanding (no direct experience but) is that it's as bad or worse.

Very few bad comments about Holley systems.

Also the main 4l60 shop I have heard about is Performabuilt, i personally know of people who have nitrous 4th gens deep in the 10's on a 60e built by them.

I'd agree, find a local shop with a good reputation. 60e's are super common and pretty easy to build.

Good to know, thank you sir.

Quality is to crap everywhere, seems like no matter what company you turn to nowadays.

Unless you know a trusted buddy that builds transmissions on the side thats 100% built right and his rep is just as good that would also own up to any mistakes, thats unless he offers no expressed warranty on his work.

Flipside to all this.... find a rebuildable core, buy the tools and all the parts you need to make it as strong as you need it to be, and LEARN to build it yourself, thats unless you are not mechanically inclined. Either way, push forward and own that satifaction you'll get afterwards. just remember to take your time and document everything you do so you have a record of it all.

That was basically the original plan until I got cold feet. I've got the bare essential transmission tools and most of the shop tools, all the parts, and a service manual. I've also got tons of pertinent pics and tips from pro builders and GM hydraulic engineers, but my experience with transmissions has always been terrible and since getting back into the real world I've had all the confidence of a newborn bunny. A custom transmission with $2k in special parts isn't something I felt I should attempt after I really thought about it, though I've rebuilt engines and have torn apart and customized nearly everything I own. Things I once knew inside and out now elude me until I'm in the middle of doing it, then my memory comes back- I forgot how to tie my shoes for 3 days so I just tucked my laces.

At the time of this post my garage was a bit different and the house was as well, after things settle and get organized I might feel better about opening it up but I'm still weighing options. Many projects didn't get started/ finished because I wasn't properly set up for success and I'm taking steps to rectify that as we speak. A clean and organized workspace is paramount to a functional transmission, and I don't quite have that ironed out just yet.
