    78 Grand Prix build

Any 326 thru 455 will bolt in using the 301 mounts. Don't overlook a Pontiac 326/350, would make a great driver and people give them away. Build for torque, max of 3.23 rear and enjoy.

484 inches of Pontiac has a new home

Just back from the Tri Power Nationals @ Norwalk. 4 days of beautiful Pontiacs showing and racing. Off the trailer Friday, got some 10.60s while fighting a cooling issue and fuel issue. Temp was 93 with 4100 DA! Saturday sorted it out and got some 10.40s @ 128 mph with a soft 1.52 60 foot, even...

Look what followed me home (Non-Gbody)

It has been just to friggin hot to work on my GP so been scanning Craigslist more then normal. I have been looking for a replacement for my rotting 88 S10. The plan was to use the 88 as test bed and it has served me well. The goal was to make an all around vehicle that can be driven almost...

Too hot and humid to do any real work today. Played around with some "NOS" driving/fog lights I have. Tell me your thoughts. No lower grills.Just lights or light/grill combo. .

Did some dirty work today. After trying a few de-tent cables with no luck installed a universal cable. Will finish up top Friday. While I was down there installed the jounce/GP braces. I made a small spacer/plate where it/they mount to the frame. In the future the jounce bars will be welded...

Freshen Up on a 78' GP LJ - Or, What to Do When the TIming Chain goes "Pop"

I have a balancer ( 301 specific ) and a new timing set when needed. Are they 01 (casting number) heads?

Freshen Up on a 78' GP LJ - Or, What to Do When the TIming Chain goes "Pop"

The nylon gears made it to atleast 1970, lost the 350 in my LeMans Sport that way. I am one of the few perverts that played with the 301. The key thing with them is restraint and DO NOT build it like a small block chebby./ Enjoy the link...

Freshen Up on a 78' GP LJ - Or, What to Do When the TIming Chain goes "Pop"

Lock/block the flywheel so it cannot turn. Then put a bar on the crank and see if it moves or turns. My fear is the crank snapped, which is a known issue with 301. Been there, done that! I got pictures of mine from years ago, there was a void/porous area inside one of the main that let loose...

484 inches of Pontiac has a new home

Don't like the improvised transmission holding device, huh? The car is a true 70 1/2 TA, originally a RA 3 , 4 speed car. The block is an IA block, Kauffman Hi ports, Victor,Dominator, 700 lift roller and around 14:1 compression. Should peak at 725-750ish HP and 600 ft # torque everywhere.

Thanks for the kind words. So far happy with my low buck results. Today I tucked the grill and mounted it up. At first was going to cut the excess off the bottom due to the bumper tuck but grill has a few cracks at the bottom. Being afraid it would not survive went to plan B. Trimmed the...

484 inches of Pontiac has a new home

That's a Victor. It's an old Philly street racer. If you do Pontiac headers enough you get a system down and its not so bad. On the plus side spark plugs are really easy! Hoping for some single digits runs but may fall short since it was a nitrous car, not geared for NA.

Lots done. First filled the horrible gap around the radiator. Found some angle flashing at big box store and bought some door edge guard. total cost was like $8! Used some high temp Rustoleum on the rad support and made a " high tech" support for the hood, also removed the carriage bolts for...

Sorry for the delay, kids back from college and all. Finished bolting on my pin-on hood. Started playing body-man. The d/s has been dry sanded with 180, primed and wet 220 a few times and finally wet 400 before paint. Don't plan on any bondo, there are only a few dings so far anyway. Using...

&%#@$%^&^% (cussing) . Some people should not be allowed to buy freakin' tools! Apparently whoever originally installed the trans broke the nipple off the detent cable base. Instead of getting a new cable they made a sleeve about 1/2" long piece of metal tube and drove it into the trans from...

You should wire the alternator direct to the battery or at least to the battery side of the kill switch. This way power is totally killed and you dont burnt up the alternator. Also what gauge is your main wire, looks kinda thin to me?

Removed, painted and reinstalled front bumper. Cut in around the bezel and fogged everything I could before putting the bumper back on. The paint on the old headlight bezels was in bad shape so they were hit with a coat of matt black. You can see the ATF lake under the car. Traced it the...
