It always takes a long time to start up my car. You pump the gas and try to start it but it takes forever to start. Once it's started and runs for a little bit and then I turn it off and try to start it, it fired right up. Does this mean my fuel pump is going out?
Well from what I understand, the 400 is a stronger transmission. I eventually want to put a 455 in there so I would like to do the 400 and be done with it.
I have a dilemma on my hands and I figured you tech heads would be the best place to ask for help.
Right now I have a TH350C in my Cutlass and it is leaking from (2) locations. The front pump and another spot on the passenger side. Now I can drop this transmission and have it repaired, rebuilt...
I got my car back from the shop today after they installed 373 gears and it is night and day. I can spin the tires and make them bark when I shift. Thanks everyone for all of your input!!!! :-) :-)
The timing isnt bouncing anymore. I just retimed it to 14* BTDC. It runs smooth and sounds good. It was never super dog slow. It does pick up when you mash it to the floor but the tires dont spin in first. I think that has everything to do with the gears.
Well the problem I am finding with the timing is the timing mark keeps jumping around. It wont stay still. Distributor vac line and carb vac line are plugged.
Carb, plugs and wires are brand new.
I think the biggest area of improvement is changing out the 2.14 gears. Is that a good place to start before I start swapping out more parts on the engine?
Ok here's what I got. They were hard to read because of the years of corrosion but I think this is it.

Looking back on what you said that "8" might be a "6" it's just very difficult to read.
I may just do 3.42 gears then. I know the gears def have to be changed. I drive this car maybe 3 times a month in the spring summer fall. That should be ok
