cams are pretty cheap, if you're willing to do a head swap doing the cam at the same time is not very much more work. you'll already have everything stripped down it's worth it to cam it.

Long tube headers aren't that bad to put in. You'll probably need to jack the car up high and feed it up from the bottom, and will probably have clearace issues with the control arm. you can either dent the header or grind a bit of the control arm.

If you are painting the whole engine compartment you can do whatever you want, but most factory engine compartments are not very glossy, I used matte on mine and I've seen semi gloss. Glossy with a clear coat might stand out alot though.
