You found a good solid car to start with , no matter which engine you go with i would install the 4 speed or 5 . Did any of the 442 G body,s come with a manual shift trans ?

Well, yes, but only in the '78-'79 cars (which were technically still A-body cars). There was a 4-speed Saginaw available with the Chevy 305 Canadian versions and a 5-speed T-5 with the 260. I had a '78 Salon with the 260/5-speed combo. Getting ready to sell the pedal assembly and bellhousing to a member here...

was the 78/79 cars actual 442, s ?
 
After 26 months of work it made it out of the garage for the first time!
