1981 Monte Carlo project

Took the car on the longest trip it’s been on to patch the floors. Got the floor patched and shifter hump added to tunnel.

Then 74 miles into the 75 mile round trip my clutch linkage tore through my oil filter

Patches seam sealed and painted. Will be putting in the carpet and sound deadner in today.

For the time being I’m sticking with the bench. At some point I’d like to go to buckets but I have other priorities I’d like to address first.

Upon realizing I had far less sound/heat deadner than I thought I decided to clean up the sill plates I had.

Installed my carpet today. Also got a look at my z bar and why it was making contact with my oil filter.

It appears to have been “repaired” then modified as well. So I believe I will be looking into getting another unit and hopefully that will correct the issue of making contact with the oil filter. Might also take this time to pull the header and “massage” the primary that is closest to it to ensure that’s not causing any interference.

When you get the "new" one make sure you weld a gusset or 2 on those arms.

They are bent very easily.

Took it out for the first real cruise since I’ve owned it. Oil filter is still intact and it made it home under its own power. I consider that a success.

I’ve noticed a apparent drivetrain vibration above 55 mph though. The joys of a project vehicle

Check to make sure your driveshaft is centered.

If it goes away over 55 your front tires may need balancing.
